Outside of Jackson, Giles, Isaac, Tatum, Rabb and a few others (non pg) for now, there are many top calibre pgs in the 2017 draft.

Just like what happened with Turner vs Jaylen Brown,  Could IT potentially be the next name out?

This is just a preliminary discussion

situation:   We can't get past the 1st round for the third time in a row.   We are not in a position to grab Jackson, Giles but in the position to draft one of the top 3 pgs of the draft.   IT has one more year left in his contract.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If the best player available is a point guard like Dennis Smith, then Danny will take him.

IT will always get first preference over a rookie, but we may be having this discussion more seriously as IT's contract expires. He's going to command $20 million+ per year.

Will Danny pay him that much?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Again depends if we are stuck in "round 1".  We all know IT is going to have the ball alot in his hands.

IT may get preference over a rookie unless the rookie has a NBA ready body like Jaylen Brown plus skills.

It's the PGs that have a lot of people saying it's a stacked draft class. I do think PGs tend to stay in college more though so things may change come declaration day.

This is why I'm glad we didn't draft Dunn. PG is so deep in this league and it's still getting deeper. Fultz, Smith and Ntilinka all look like all-star talents. There's a decent chance we end up with one of these guys, but right now it looks like there's a lot of parity 1 through 6, so it might be the kind of choice where there's no clear BPA and you can go based on position.

Things will change, for sure.  They always do.

That said, this is a special year for PG.  Scout.com has four PG in their top 10 college recruits for this year.  From 2012-2015, only four PG total made their respective year's top 10s.  Two of the four entered the draft their first year of eligibility.  We just haven't seen a group of PG like this in a while, if ever, at least at the high school level.
