He would demand a monster deal, and take minutes from Marcus and Brown, but I'm just curious to see if anyone would be tempted: especially if he agreed to a 1 + 1

Thought J.R. Smith hated the Celtics since his New York Knicks days and the Cavaliers playoff matches against them.

I wouldn't sign him if he played for free.

It would give Jae plenty of opportunities to seek revenge. Count me in.

The only reason why he'd come to Boston is for the big paycheck and the only way he'd make sense there is if he came cheap.  So...no.

His outside shooting would be great, and his defense is sneaky-good when he is actually motivated.  Just doesn't fit the timeline, budget, and development for the Celtics.

I don't want JR Smith.

But then again, not only would Smith be the dynamic shooter we need, we would also take a key piece away from the Cavs.

Like buying a slightly bigger no-name brand TV that might or might not have dead pixels within the year, I could talk myself into this.

I wouldn't mind. Give him like a 2-3 year deal. Last year non guaranteed.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

We're not going to pay him the salary he wants if he leaves Cleveland.

If we're looking for a shooter off of the bench, we might as well just pick up Terry for a second go around, who was just told by Houston that he won't be re-signed. He'd be a great locker room vet to provide spot minutes and shooting for us for cheap.

About $10-11 million.

about the current cap sitch: are you figuring zizic and yab's cap holds there? Could it go up to 13.5mill if and when they leave for Europe?

P.S the sign and trade where cleveland gets Young could be an option

Could we pay him 12 million a year to not play for the Cavs? Could we sign him and then trade him after the restriction comes up?

Obviously kidding ... obviously maybe kidding.

I allow for one of them until I officially hear that they're off the books. They come off automatically at the beginning of the season, but before then they need a letter from the players saying they don't want to come over.  Neither is under any obligation to sign such an agreement, so maybe we can count on one doing it, but not more.

It'd be a little more than $12.5 mil available if both went to Europe.

Right now, assuming neither come off the books, we can create just under $10 mil ($9.9mil+) by renouncing Zeller and releasing John Holland.
