Amir Johnson dominates Anthony Davis anyways.

Plus, we drafted Deonte Davis. Oh, wait . . . yup, we still need a center :(

Remember when ML Carr said he would give up a first round pick just to talk to Jordan..

I think that would have been worth sacrificing Eric Montross for.
I'd give up Eric Montross for 1 game of Michael Jordan.

Hey now, ML Carr didn't do much right, but flipping Eric Montross and the #9 pick for back-to-back #6 picks was a move Danny Ainge would be jealous of.  Let's not be so quick to give Montross away here in another deal.

Now if you want trade away Alton Lister or Todd Day or Greg Minor or Pervis Ellison, have at it, but please save Montross for the big deals and let ML Carr work his magic.  ;)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I'm sure Ainge tried.

It was probably like "Hey it's Danny from the Celtics. We're interested in offering you a trade for Anthony Davis. We can offe/CLICK...hello? Hello?"
I'm pretty sure the click would have come before the word "Davis" was uttered..
You may very well be correct. I suppose they might listen up to Davis just to make sure it's not a three team proposal for Anthony Brown or Carmelo Anthony

They won't trade Davis unless they're forced to. You just don't trade guys of that caliber unless your back is against the wall. If it does happen it will be the 2019-2020 season, which is the last season in which he's under team control. He has a player option for 2020-2021 at $27M, but he almost certainly declines this so he can cash in with a new" deal under a much higher salary cap.

I see them floundering around for a few years, then panicking in 2020 once he gets fed up and threatens to opt out and "test the market."

Good chance he's traded then.

Why would the Pelicans trade arguably the best big man in the game, who happens to be 23 years old? What could we possibly give them. They are a young, rebuilding team and have their cornerstone player that everyone else wishes they had. No amount of picks would land us Davis.
Were there any great reasons to trade Cousins, Griffin or Butler for there to be rumors?
I've never seen a truly legit Cousins to Celtics rumor, but if there were- it's most likely because the guy is a headcase who has gone through about 5 coaches.
Griffin is a FA next year, has an injury history, and the team basically played better without him last year. It also sounds like the "rumors" lately have been de-bunked.
Butler, while a very nice player, does not hold nearly the same value as A Davis does, so I'm sure CHI would consider trading him if we were willing to give up Crowder, Smart & a Brooklyn pick.

Griffin in the last year of deal
Cousins team cancer
Butler rift with team/ management

Davis has like 3 or 4 years left on his contract, Superstars that young, with that much time left on their contracts don't get traded.
Those aren't great reasons because
Griffin is likely to be resigned
Cousins is liked by teammates and executives so not a cancer because he didn't get along with coaches.
Butler's rift was with players and management coddling certain guys. That doesn't scream trade that player.

Who are you to say Griffin is going to be resigned?  Do you actually believe that a young guy with years on his contract is more likely to be moved than a player at the end of his deal and risk losing him for nothing like Durant?
The executives likes Cousin because he is talented, not because he is easy to get along with. At some point the management might feel he isnt worth the headache, hence the rumors.
Rifts with management is exactly what screams, trade that player.

You might feel otherwise, but these kinds of things, viable train of thought are what leads to rumors. Can you seriously give me a plausible reason why Anthony Davis is available?!

That is a player that will NEVER be traded if they can help it ....he is Duncan , Shaq , Kobe , KG , LeBron ......he doesn't go unless HE decides to go.

Keeping him off the Lakers will be a major drama in years to come.

This thread should have ended right there.

We are clearly in the summer doldrums now and will have to put up with Celtics basketball withdrawal symptoms for the next 2 months.

If you want an Anthony Davis to the Celtics rumor, just start one yourself. It would be as legitimate as any of the other trade rumors going around nowadays.

mef has us covered earlier in the thread:

One name that hasn't been discussed much is Anthony Davis. Sources in the front office, however, have indicated that he's very much in play and the Celtics are the closest to a deal if their pending agreement for Blake Griffin falls through. The price for Davis is high: Both Brooklyn draft picks as well as the Memphis pick will likely be combined with at least two of the Celtics starters, with Jae Crowder and Isaiah Thomas the likely candidates. Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown and 2017 draft pick Guerschon Yabusele will likely be included in the trade, as will Pelicans players Omer Asik and/or Tyreke Evans."

According to one source, "Davis has become frustrated with the Pelicans. He signed an extension as a show of good faith and feel that their efforts to build a winner simply haven't been there. He has approached management privately and asked for a trade. Management is considering whether to cash out now or struggle to keep Davis happy before he becomes a free agent again at age 27."

Negotiations between the teams have been ongoing and two executives believe that it is a done deal if Griffin remains in Los Angeles. "They're there," said one. "Right now, it's more a matter of sorting out salaries. The Pelicans realize that they are giving up the best player in the deal but are preparing to rebuild around a solid core of players and draft picks."
