If the numbers work (both teams under the cap so salaries don't have to match??)

Big moose brings similar skills as Okafor, runs the break, and would cost less to acquire.

Horford is about as good a complimentary big as you could ask for next to either Okafor or Monroe.

The Celtics are not far enough under the cap to take in Monroe without salaries matching.  Sully would have to get paid the max for that to happen, and then we'd still have to send something else.

No they want to keep the cap clean through the trade deadline and into next summer.

Sully will be back if we sign him to a front loaded 1 year guarantee contract.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Monroe has a player option for next year that I'd expect he will decline, so that's not a concern.

So, if I've got this right:

Monroe makes $17.15 mil.

Sully's new deal under base-year compensation rules would act as 50% its value in a trade.

Salaries need be within $5 mil to match.

So in a straight up scenario, Sully would have to make more than $24 mil on his next contract? LOL.

Correct.  And as the max is a little over $22 mil, it's obviously not possible.

Correct.  And as the max is a little over $22 mil, it's obviously not possible.

So, there'd need to be a good deal of filler from BOS for this to work.

Assuming Sully signs a "market deal" starting at $18 mil, that's a little more than $8 mil in filler that would need to go out with him to match Monroe.

Something like Jerebko, Young, Holland, and Hunter, for example (~$8.9 mil).

But then the problem is that Milwaukee might now be taking on too much salary.  That's why such a deal is difficult.

Oh, right. Forgot about that. And that would be too much. A third team with cap space might need to take Jerebko.

 Not sure about that Salt.

In the trade machine Amir plus Hunter works. Monroe is 17 million coming in and 13.2 million going out for Amir plus Hunter.

Monroe can't even play defense.  Why would we want to S&T Sullinger to a higher salary plus we'd need to add in salary filler, say Amir Johnson for example.  Not worth it.

How about trading for literally any other PF in the league.  Inefficient, stat chaser who doesn't play D and every team he joins immediately gets worse

Monroe is not a PF. If he were, he'd still be playing  in Portland.

Milkwaukee is down on Monroe so perhaps but I think unlikely, the could just sign him if they wanted him.    It is doubtful Ainge would match the QO.   So many teams passing on Sully, if this does not wake him up nothing will.
