The Celtics take in $16.3 million more in salary than they give out in this deal, but I don’t know how much cap space we currently have left and also some of that can be offset by including players like James Young or Jerebko as needed.

Boston trades:  IT4, 2017 (or 18) Brooklyn pick
Boston gets:  CP3

LAC trades:  CP3
LAC gets:  Westbrook

OKC trades:  Westbrook
OKC gets:  IT4, 2017 (or 18) Brooklyn pick

I think it’s a no brainer for LAC.  Westbrook’s age lines up perfectly with that of Blake and Deandre.  As for OKC, I suspect the offers coming in for Westbrook will be thin as many teams won’t want to trade for a one year rental of Westbrook, except teams that feel confident he’ll resign like LAL and LAC.  I’m not sure which teams will offer something stronger than this for a one year rental.

For Boston, I wanted to stick to the rebuild, but I think the Horford signing threw a total wrench in that plan.  You don’t sign a 30 year old guy to 4 year/$113 mil if you’re in a rebuild.  CP3 can run a highly efficient offense by himself and he is still an elite defender which would make us even better defensively.

Boston has a rotation of:
Point guards:  CP3/Rozier/Jackson
Wings:  AB/Crowder/Smart/Brown/Hunter/Jerebko
Bigs:  Horford/Amir/Olynyk/Mickey

I don't personally love it myself for Boston, but I find the idea somewhat intriguing.  Still a good amount of assets left to bring in another star if one becomes available.

No thanks.

I've loved Paul's game for years. But giving up IT and a Brooklyn pick on a 31 year old PG who isn't going to be able to put us over the top smacks of sheer desperation. Hortford's signing doesn't require us to limit our window of opportunity. Making this deal most certainly does.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

One thing I didn't realize is that Chris Paul has a player option after this season, which he would likely opt out and look for a new big final contract.

As everyone knows were not going to overpay RW for the potential of him walking.  I would trade IT & 2017 nets pickswap for RW & NOTHING more.  I would not trade our "young core" for a year of Russ.

PG. Marcus Smart
SG. Russell Westbrook
SF. Jaylen Brown
PF. Jae Crowder
C. Al Horford

Look out.

I would rather have Westbrook than CP3.
