His rationale: Westbrook would be crazy to sign an extension considering he has waited 7 years for his chance at a big payday. Considering what OKC just went through, they can't take things to FA again.

He tossed out the idea that Boston could be a landing spot.

Thoughts? I think we're better off just waiting until Free Agency considering we'll never get an assurance that Westbrook would sign an extension.

Russell Westbrook is a more explosive player and an overall bigger star, but I'm rolling with IT as our starting PG. He has come in and embodied what a Celtic player should be, he's given his all in recruiting and on the court and as a team we have to respect that with some amount of loyalty.

There are two different scenarios, one where you get him on a potential rental and one where you get him where he immediately agrees to an extension. My offer for a rental will be far different than if he, at the very least, gives us a guarantee that he will sign a max 5 year deal next summer.

Do you think if we started him alongside IT they could coexist?

Completely agree. I would be terrified if we traded for him and just hoped he would stay.

If we have a truly great season next year, I think we could have a chance to sign him in the open market. Everyone assumes that he is going to the Lakers, but if they are terrible again this year I just don't see it.

IT is loyal to those who treat him with respect.

Westbrook is a gunslinger ,  and I have trouble seeing him fitting in.

Westbrook probably going to Heat .

Sure Riley assured KD he'd take care of Westbrook

Not starting, but they could certainly play stretches together.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Nope ......celtics are about ball movement.   Brown would never develope ,

The ball movement stops with Westbrook .   That was what was harped on everytime OKC played, lack of sharing the ball.   Need to pass the ball n look for the best shot first.

CBS .....like Warriors everybody is envolved .

Westbrook is Rondo who an shoot lights out and play above the rim.

He is an ISO player ........rest of the team gets lost

Butler or Hayward are better fits.

Westbrook actually showed serious improvement in the GSW series until he and Durant choked it away.  But has been said, you cannot give up much for him without an extension.

As mentioned in the other 5/6 threads on this topic, a new one won't change my mind, and the answer still remains that it would be incredibly dumb to trade for him.

It has to be cheap. At most 2 future 1st rounders, none of them Brooklyn's.

Honestly if they trade him I could see D'Angelo Russell coming in return from the Lakers, makes a lot of sense for them. Throw in Randle or Ingram and OKC will more than listen.

Anyone else would be scared to trade for him

There is no point in trading all those assets for Westbrook unless you get another star to add onto the core players the Celtics have. Otherwise we have no shot at beating the Warriors, thus you're better off drafting and waiting for this dynasty to end. AKA Durant ruined the league.

I don't see the point in bringing Westbrook at age 28. If rather look further down the road but that's just me.

Sigh. Yep.

The swing factor will be that Westbrook will express a desire to sign an extension with the Lakers, but not the Celtics, which will prompt LA to offer way more, and so they will win the Westbrook sweepstakes, and we will see a thread that says "Celtics sign Humphries to 2 yr $10M contract", and we will be angry and sad and scared. Unless we trade for Cousins or Davis.
