For two years now, the Celtics faithful have been promised fireworks by (let's be honest) an over zealous owner. Some attribute the lack of fireworks to Danny Ainge, yet the burden of responsibility may not have solely fallen on his shoulders. Trader Danny can only do so much when the rest of the league is scared. People often forget that the tail end of the firework is the part that burns the hottest. Given this landscape, Ainge has done everything possible to set the Celtics up to contend for years to come. All he needs is that first domino.

Enter Durant. If you were to design a basketball player on paper, Durant is what you would come up with, yet this isn't even about that. A Player so singularly designed to be a Celtic that he probably bleeds green without his knowledge. This is a man who does not really fit in with this generation of bling and the the pursuit of high fashion. He is a man who during the off season wakes up, plays pickup ball, hits the gym for a few hours, plays another game of pickup, watches tape, finishes with a third game of pickup, and caps off his night by playing NBA 2k (watch his summer documentary sometime, its amazing.) In an age of "world ambassadors" and "renaissance men," Durant has a very public love affair with basketball. This is the kind of star that Boston worships. Singularly devoted to his craft, a willingness to lay his mind and soul to bear for his city, and an undying need to win. These qualities he learned and molded partly by watching his favorite athletes Tom Brady and Larry Bird.

Russell, Havlicek, Bird, Pierce, Garnett, and finally Durant. You can be the latest in a long line of great men who have given it all for the city of Boston. If you do this, at the very least you will be treated like a God in this city. Thanks in large part to the leadership of Danny Ainge, the Celtics are ready for you. They have even taken a leap of faith by signing Horford, now it is your turn, trust the city. This trust might, just might, allow you to become one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of sneakers. Stevens can guide you. Danny can support you. Our stolen future of the Nets can sustain you. Our players can and will go to war for you.

This basically comes down to two options. Greatness can be given, or it can be taken. Which option will you revel in reliving to your grand kids one day. The day you waltzed into another mans glory, or the day you ripped the glory from their hands for the greatest Basketball team ever? The choice is clear from both a basketball perspective and a legacy one.

While you were not born here, nor were you raised here, the time has come. Kevin, bring the fireworks, and come home.
