Let's say we miss out on Durant and Howard, but land Horford. Let's say we add Hayward next offseason and land a top five pick, which we use on a PF like Giles or Isaac. Let's say we add some other top 10 pick in 2018. Do we have enough ammo to compete for a championship in 2018-2019? Does it basically hinge on how our draft picks pan out?

1: Thomas
2: Bradley or Smart, likely one gone by then
3: Hayward or Brown with the other as sixth man
4: Giles, Isaac, or?...
5: Horford

Bench: Anybody's guess. Hopefully Yabasule, Zizic, Jackson, Bentil, a top rookie and a successful reclamation project

I think Hayward is way overrated.

what is with the obsession with hayward? he has some talent around him in utah and they can't even make the playoffs.

he might never make an all-star game.

fringe stars don't lead teams to titles in this league, and i doubt he moves the needle much here. he's a good but not great offensive player - at age 26 his career FG% is .438, not exactly stellar, but not bad, either - but whatever he brings on offense is at least partially negated by his mediocre defense. we need two-way players if we're going to become contenders.

howard might be OK if we had someone like durant to pair him with. doesn't matter how good our defense is if we don't get at least one elite scorer. maybe one of our young guys fulfills that role, but by the time it happens howard might be too old.

We're not winning championships unless we have at least 2 or 3 future hall of famers, or a superstar with exceptional role players complementing him.
