I think Milsap is the guy to pair with Howard for several reasons:
1) he should be available if Horfors leaves Atl
2) he should be decently cheap given his age and contract status (PO next year and expected to exercise it to opt out)
3) great two-way, stretch fit next to Howard.
We'd be the best defensive team in the league with three all-defensive teamers, a former DPOY, and two other borderline all-defensive team rotation players. Our offense would also be much improved.
I think the price on trading for Milsap wouldn't be cheap. He also has a player option for next year, so it could be a one year rental. Of course, maybe that would keep his price down, but I really see Atlanta holding out for a Brooklyn pick. While it's true they only got pick #12 for Teague, the market for bigs tends be be stronger than the market for PGs.
Eh, I can't imagine any situation where they could legitimately hold out for a Brooklyn pick. He is definitely opting out next year, and he's up there in age. They might ask for it initially, but I can't imagine they'd get anything near that value for him.
There will be a lot of teams with the cap room and need for a PF who will be interested. Furthermore, Atlanta is likely to prefer prospects entering their second or third season to draft picks, especially those multiple years away. Budenholzer is both coach and GM -- the impatient coach tends to win out in those dual relationships. Accordingly, to top a prospect that Atlanta might get offered, I think it would have to be the Brooklyn pick, particularly the 2017 pick. (Unless we want to send Smart or Brown, but I'd rather not.)
