Sam Presti. They close a S&T deal for Durant that sends Amir Johnson Jerebko and piles of picks to OKC

That's not how S&Ts work.  We would need to get KD to agree to play for us first, and then would have no reason to get Presti involved

Doesn't Durant retain his bird rights if he is technically traded?

He can do that right now if he wants to. Milsap is not a free agent, trading season has been open for a while now.

Has to be Horford. Not just to get him to sign with us, but to keep him from signing with OKC. I suspect OKC's pitch to Durant is going to revolve around bringing in a guy like Horford.

Not if it's a sign and trade.  From the CBA FAQs (this one took a little digging):

Quote
Sign-and-trade contracts must be for at least three seasons (not including any option year) and no longer than four seasons. The first year of the contract must be fully guaranteed, but the remaining seasons can be non-guaranteed. The combination of a three-year minimum with a one-year guarantee ensures that the player's new team cannot acquire the player's Bird rights any sooner than if they had signed him directly (if they wanted to re-sign him in less than three years they would first have to waive him, and lose any Bird rights)

I think things will work out so the Celtics make similar smaller, short term moves to last year.  Not sure who those guys will be.  Perhaps Ryan Anderson with decent money on only a short deal to prove himself.

I think Durant will sign back in OKC for one year and re evaluate next year already with an idea about some of the teams, including ours.  In a year he can get a better feel on our players and picks and perhaps in a year the Celtics actually have made a trade for a big player. Or maybe they have the first pick from the Nets and are primed to (or draft the first pick).  Meanwhile, OKC was really close and gets one more crack at it.  The next year he can get paid even more.

Horford. Getting him to sign is step one to making a plausible pitch to KD.
