Wow! That is interesting, and it really shows you how much our status has risen around the league in the last several years. Remember two years ago when he wouldn't even agree to meet with us?
I think it's more of an indication of how his status has fallen -- I don't think he can afford to snub any teams any longer.

Beat me to it, TP.  This just reeks of 'oh how the mighty have fallen', imo.

Celtics have indicated they will not aggressively pursue Howard.
Only if the price is right.
Danny Ainge is not stupid.

Not a fan of Howard, his attitude towards losing, his previous attempts to sabotage Stan Van Gundy, his massive ego, or the fact his game has not evolved one bit since he entered the league. His offensive moves are no better. His shooting of any kind is no better. His defense might be worse because he isnt the physical specimen he was.

He has stated he wants to be a major part of any offense he plays in. He is on the wrong side of 30. His game is predicated entirely on his physicality. He will want a $100 million contract, this 1 and 1 stuff aint happening. He is looking for four years and 9 figures, bet on it.

That said, IF Howard wants to come to Boston on a one year $15 million contract, yeah, I would do it, but as I said, that is not happening.

Yeah, I've always felt that the worst thing that happened in Howard's career was having Patrick Ewing teach him how to play in the post for all those years in Orlando, iirc.  By the time he got to Hakeem and McHale, not to mention the fact that he didn't work with Kareem at all while he was in  LA, it was too late.  Howard makes Ewing look like Olajuwon, lol ;D.

Danny Ainge is not stupid.

I think what the Celtics really meant by that was:

"We know Howard is an immature, selfish basketball player, but after all the failure he has endured in LA and Houston, and the fact that he is older now, we will check in with him in the small chance that he has matured mentally enough for us to consider signing him."

wow, I can't believe the mavericks actually presented that as a pitch to Howard.  Why don't they go after him now since they were such avid suitors before?

Being a Maverick ends in global domination?  WDF?

Hearing that Dwight Howard is leaning toward either Boston or Atlanta. Doesn't look like anybody else is left in the picture.

I saw that.

Very pleased to see that. This whole thing has a distinct Gin Baker feel to it.

May be the best thing Ainge has done in the post-season.

Idc, let's just go after Dwight. We need a rim protector bad. He'll be an immediate upgrade over Amir/Sully/Olynyk who all pretends to be centers.

Depending on the contract I could be anywhere from p---ed to ecstatic about signing Dwight.

His rebounding and defense is still terrific and his usage was horribly low in HOuston. He was actually a really efficient scorer. Furthermore, Ainge has a good relationship with McHale so he has something of an insiders look into Howards character.

That said, I want a team option somewhere in that deal and more importantly I want it way under 30 mil.

He fills a legit need. Price? Who cares. He can play and god knows this team needs a guy who can play D in the front court.
