It would be really weird if KD kept #35 and Jaylen chose #30.

I wonder how much number availability affects free agent decisions. I'd guess hardly at all, though some players are superstitious like that.

I just think this shows the classiness of this organization and how much respect we have for the families of the Celtics' players. It might not convince him to come but this will get him thinking.

I wouldn't want KD to wear #35.

Yeah, me neither.  Retired numbers should more or less be sacred.  Feels like we selling out for the next big thing.

Not to mention that this is woefully premature.

Totally disagree. I hate the odd numbers on the floor now.

I wish they'd put all the retired numbers back in circulation, and put a patch on the uniform for the retired player, like Michigan football.

The problem is that we are running out of numbers. 34 and 5 should be retired in a few years. They need to start having Retired and honorary numbers. Those could be given out to the right players.

That being said, it was really nice of his mom to offer that, and if it's fine with her, it should be fine with everyone. But I could see KD refusing to wear it for respect as well.

Same.  What's wrong with 4, 7, 11, 12, 21, 42, or 45, for example?

I have a compromise solution.  Keep the numbers retired so as to honor players. But when the team runs out of numbers let's give them all letters!!  ;D

I wonder who will be the first to wear QQ?

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Here's my thing.  Would we even be talking about #35 if it were a midlevel free agent who wears that number?  If the answer is no, and it is, then we shouldn't be talkin about it with KD.  As I said, we'd simply be selling out reggies number.

Plenty of other numbers available.

“I don’t think it would take anything from Reggie because his number is still hanging up in the Garden,” Ritch told me over the phone. “If I see Durant running up and down the court with the No. 35, I don’t know how my emotions would be until it happens.

I'm not even Reggie's mom but I might choke up if they show her Durant in #35 Celtic jersey.

Wouldn't mind Durant wearing #20.
