The NBA draft is never a sure thing... Even when you look at past drafts there are some where virtually no impact players are drafted in a given year... and even a good or better draft may produce 10 players who give a strong contribution to their team.. That being said its good the Celtics used 6 total picks with two in the top 16 plus another one that most people like in Zizic..
As OP pointed out the Celtics for the most part were GIVEN these picks so its like going to the casino with house money... There was not a single Celtics player that everyone immediately wanted back except for Rondo but now all are grateful in getting Crowder back plus a first rounder.. Ainge continues to do a great job and most have to realize this FA market is practically a fair market for anyone... everyone has cap space and like it or not Boston is NOT a destination place... Its a cold city, highly racist city, has minimal attractions, so if the Celtics can win over some players with a great coach, good chemistry, storied franchise thats all the best... But overall the team has to build the nucleus through the draft and I thought he did a hell of a job..

Has Paul Pierce, KG, IT, Doc, or anyone in recent Celtics history ever indicated that Boston is a racist city or that they don't love Boston? Pierce wants to stay around and open a business here, he wrote love letters to the city and fans in the Boston Globe. Boston is one of the most open minded areas in the country for race and gender and sexual preference. So much so that large parts of the country who support Trump hate us for this. The only areas that rival Boston for liberal, open minded people are the San Francisco, San Diego, LA areas, and NY. That's it.

Boston is legit, top tier destination for free agents. Mark my words.

Yeah, you would think that empirical evidence that we legitimately have not had the opportunity or space to sign major free agents in a very long time would shut this theory down. But, alas, it's still there.

Yep, we have never actually had the cap space to sign any top tier free agents. This is a first for the Celtics. Ignoring this fact and attributing it to highly inaccurate beliefs of things like racism boggles the mind. Do you honestly believe that if Durant though Boston was a racist, cold, nasty city we would be on his short list of teams that he will meet with? We are one of the most liberal, highly educated cities in the nation, if not THE most. That's why the celtics took the opportunity to highlight this when they talked about Brown and his interest in education.

We had space last year, but really no one moved who was of interest. But at the same time we're entering an handful of years, or at least one, in which just about everyone will have cap space, when usually teams would've been battling against 2 or 3 potential legit suitors at most.

So it would be hard to compare how decisions will come to play compared to previous seasons.

Boston is certainly not a favorite landing spot, but the notion that no one wants to come here is flawed at best.

It's not a pipe dream. Long shot, yes... but that's the reality for just about every suitor in the market.

here is some knowledge for you all

http://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/10-most-racist-cities-in-america-ranked-by-hate-crimes-366373/

Have to wonder how much law enforcement competency plays into this and stats manipulation (which does happen on a much larger scale than one would imagine). Also, one has to wonder how much racial diversity plays into this (more chances of this types of incidents to occur).

Not going to argue about there being racism or not and the amount of it, but not going to simplify it merely into a hate crime stat.

That is a poor example. Of course the cities with highest population have the highest number of all crimes, including hate crimes. If you analyze the mentality of the majority of people in each city , Boston is one of the most open minded places in the country. I mentor several people each year from all backgrounds and nations, and the comments I hear most often about why they come here is that it is one of the few places in America where they generally feel safe. This includes Muslim students, and people of all races.

Anyways to the point regardless... there's certainly a perception of being a racist city, so that's all that matters in the end. How much will the perception will influence decisions, and in turn how much about players loving playing here once they've arrived will influence those decisions.

Who knows.

Yes. there is that issue as well. In large parts of the US, people feel less secure about reporting such crimes, as the police dept and local government are just as racist as the perpetrators.

That's not true though. 50 years ago maybe, but in the last 20 or so years Boston is considered worldwide as a very open minded, liberal, all inclusive city. It doesn't influence free agency negatively, if anything it influences it positively.
