You can afford to overpay when it puts your team in position to sign a FA like Durant.

You can also end up stuck with overpaying Tyson Chandler when you thought it would put you in a position to sign Lamarcus Aldridge.

False analogy. Noel is a 21 year old defensive stud who would've been our long-term anchor in the middle. Noel is a good in himself, not some means to another end.

Philly still has 3 centers on their roster that need playing time. They really *need* to trade one. I fully expect DA to make an offer to them for Noel sometime later this summer...somewhere in the offers he makes for Gasol, Noah, Howard, etc. No reason in overpaying last night.

Noel is a nice defensive player who's about to get maxed by someone because of all the money floating around. I wouldn't mind having him on the roster, but he doesn't move the needle for Durant and makes it harder to land a star going forward by filling up a quarter of the cap.
