Did Ainge turn into Michael Jordan without us knowing it?
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

That's not a good deal for the Cs. Noel would be a nice piece but isn't worth the #3 pick.

The problem is the filler. Covington comes off the bench. Now that's two roster spots filled.

24 and 26 means that's two more picks that have to be disposed of because the Cs would have NINE picks - but none of them really enticing enough to get to move up back into the top 10. They simply can't use them and thus the deal was not good for the Cs.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Yes, yes he did. Ainge can trade, but he is no better than average at drafting. Obviously a bad outcome when Brown is the 8th rated prospect. Brown certainly can thank his lucky stars for hitting a bunch of 3s against nobody in the 2nd workout...too bad he only had regular IQ and no bball IQ.

Well said.  Jaylen Rose agrees...despite liking Noel more than Okafor.  Says something about the Sixers big's fan club.

This is the downside to the Hinkie tear down strategy.  Noel is a decent centerpiece but Philly had nothing else that could sweeten the deal.  If they had one other legitimate NBA starter they could have thrown into the mix, Ainge might have bit.

24 and 26 is garbage.  Would have taken future Lakers and/or Kings picks

Yeah, at the very least we could've traded down and still got Brown.

Maybe we can still get Noel with Rozier and 16 or something.

They offered a pile of meh for the Celts best asset.

The problem with this line of thinking is that Noel is a better basketball player than Brown ever will be.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

Covington and two late firsts doesn't change things much.

It is Noel vs Jaylen Brown. Fair enough that Ainge rated Brown over Noel. Brown is a two way player and Noel is defensive specialist.

Bummer.  Would have loved to have Noel.

Doesn't have the upside brown potentially does. Brown is much more risky for sure. More boom or bust. I can see why Ainge did it. It's a pick a man secure in his position makes. Hope it works out.

You think that's a good deal?

Covington is a solid player and the the two picks are worthless unless you can trade them tonight. Have to pay Noel soon too, terrible deal.
