and imagine if the injury bug hits Lopez this time around. They could be a looking at a ship worse than the Titanic.

FA Hotspot for FAs who can't get a max deal elsewhere.

Maybe if the Nets were the only team with double-max space, but why team up in Brooklyn when you could team up on a team that has talent?
^ this tbh

it's not like Brooklyn is the only team with cap space this summer; if anything, it has acquired a rather bad reputation (iirc both KG and PP made dismissing remarks about the work ethic there) and  I would be surprised if players saw it as a prime destination. Having said this, anything is possible, esp. if they sign the first good FA; but I won't believe it until I see it happening.

Can't wait to see the Nets max out JR Smith and Sully because no one else will be left.

Aren't the Lakers going after him?  I think they'll be stuck with someone like Rondo or Lawson as their big FA addition
I'm bitter.

Lol, Rondo to Bojan Bogdanovich for three  ;D

And last I heard the Lakers did not have interest in signing Derozan. Which they shouldn't

It's something to keep an eye on.  There was a time when Brooklyn was seen as a major free agent destination due to the potential marketability of that team.

They really have no reason not to spend wildly.  They have no draft pick.  They can throw money at all sorts of role players this Summer.

For more of my thoughts on the Brooklyn Nets, see Eddie20's signature.

Lol. Tp Larbird  for the humility...

I think Sean marks is taking it slow with the rebuild
As they don't have any picks so it doesn't matter if they win or lose
They can overpay free agents but then they'd be wasting money
Also prokorhov probably doesn't want to spend a ton like last time esp luxury tax, only to be taken out in the 2nd round

Sean marks is a smart guy
He is not going to risk the franchise future just because we own their picks

Also with the cap rising
Most teams have money to spend
So money won't necessarily be a given to attract free agents to Brooklyn

Might not mean much, but in the Dunc'd on Mock Off season (2 hours long) where they go through each FA, the Nets were not particularly successful. I don't think they were able to sign anyone of note.

My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

In terms of FA strategy, I think they will attempt to make deals like we did with Amir and JJ.  They will offer above-market per year salaries in exchange for shorter contracts.  If successful, they could be as good or maybe marginally better than last season.

That's as pessimistic as I can be about our pick.

Shipping Thad for a late 1st round pick isn't exactly going to help them attract FA's.

The thing to remember is that the Nets have no picks.  They'll probably get our first rounder in the 20s next year.  They have no 2nd round pick in 2017.  They have no 1st or 2nd round pick in 2018.  I think they don't have a 2nd round pick in 2019.

It's all well and good to talk about signing FAs and treading water for two years, but that's two more years you're delaying a real rebuild and two more years of nothing to sell your fanbase except not being the worst team in the league.  The Nets don't have an incentive to tank, but they do have every incentive to trade anything they can for any draft pick they can get.

That's why they flipped their second best player for a pick in the 20s.  That's why Lopez is going to be gone as soon as anyone offers them more than that and any free agent who signs there could be on his way to another team if a first rounder is offered.

The Nets will try to be as good as they can but their top priority will be getting any picks they can.  Heck, I'm sure Ainge's Plan Z is to send them the lottery protected picks from Memphis and the Clippers for Lopez.
