Looking to move 2016 1st Round Picks (12/21) to fit Horford...

I would love to grab both of these picks as I am hopeful the Celtics can get Poeltl in a slide or by combining picks 12/16.

Trade
Jonas Jerebko/James Young/Pick 23

for

Kyle Korver/Pick 12/Pick 21

We rid them of 2 higher picks and give them a later pick in 23, a 1st round prospect in James Young and the flexibility of Jonas Jerebko contract (i.e. could be cut) to support them freeing up cap space to resign Al Horford.

Help me understand why ATL would give up the best player in the deal in order to move backwards in the draft?

2 motivating factors:

1. Kyle Korver is 35 years old.
2. They need the cap space to sign Horford.

Didn't the C's have a deal in place with Atlanta last year if Charlotte were willing to trade #9? Interesting trade partner.

Do they need cap space to sign him?  They should have his Bird rights, no?

1)  they don't need cap space to sign horford because they have his bird rights.

2). They will still have cap space AFTER signing both their first rounders and signing horford to a max deal.

Yeah. If they sign Horford to the max they'll still have about 24 million in cap.
