Several teams who were previously hesitant to pursue Caldwell-Pope have gotten engaged with him after the Pistons removed the threat of matching, sources said. Other teams in talks with Caldwell-Pope that have some cap space have been looking to create more, sources said.

The Lakers currently have $17 million in cap space but can get to $18.3 million in space. They are interested in doing one-year deals to protect their cap space in 2018 when the free agent market will be loaded with stars.

KCP seems to play consistently well only against Boston, so unless there's a team that plays Boston 40 times a year, I'm not too concerned with where he ends up.

Rondo, on the other hand, I think could help the Lakers a lot, so hopefully he stays away.

Hm, I can't imagine Rondo wanting to sign a 1 year deal. Gets traded to Dallas, spends 1 year in Sactown, 1 year in Chicago, and then 1 year in L.A. but then again, if it's somewhere upwards of 10m I can see it. his next deal after that probably won't be that much anyway. might as well cash out for a year.

Wonder how this affects our pick? Rondo never plays during the regular season

I kind of feel the opposite. Unless Rondo is really engaged, he's not going to be helpful and I can't see him being very engaged on that Lakers team. But KCP would be their starting SG, play defense, and hit 3's. That could actually help them.

Sources: Despite committing $18M for Caldwell-Pope, Lakers still trying to find a way to sign Rondo. Lakers have a $4.3M exception to use.

So looks like Lakers get two gritty wins against Boston this year huh
