If we do get Hayward... You guys think Stevens convinces him to sign an extension with the Celtics long term? Assuming we don't get Durant next season...

Isnr he aleady locked up for the next 2-3 years?

No, player option after the 16-17 season.

I kind of feel like G.Hayward is a bit overrated.  He is a below average defender and has below average athleticism.  He did score 19 a game last season but he also only shot 43% from the floor and 34% from behind the three point line.  The C's have several glaring issue and scoring is certainly one of them.  When you take a closer look at the numbers though you'll notice that overall the shooting percentage was pretty bad...not to mention the FT shooting.  Is Hayward that much of an upgrade?

I feel like there's only like 2-3 reports saying this.

Every other twitter account and/or report seems to say Hayward is untouchable  ???

He's one of those "deceptively athletic" (i.e. white, so people assume otherwise) types.

Well that seems to contradict everything that people have said so far...

Whilst I like Hayward his price seems to be the 3rd pick + assets. Not sure that's worth it for a guy with one year left. Even if we re-sign him are you happy with paying him $25-30m the next few years?

Good lord no, he's not worth that price.

Middleton would have been ok because he's on a good value contract ($14M per) and is pretty much 90% of the player Hayward is, and (IIRC) is younger too.

But no way in hell I'm paying $25M for Hayward.

No thanks.. Hayward is okay but nothing special. Might as well try to get someone special at #3

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Sure I'd trade the #3 for Hayward as long as he came back with the #12 and we were only giving up Johnson and Young to match salary.
We are not getting a high quality player like Hayward just for moving down 9 spots.

I was going to post some kind of sarcastic remark supporting that just moving down for a player of Hayward's caliber is ridiculous, but honestly beyond the 3rd overall, what else would you want to trade for him? How much better is he than say..Tobias Harris? I'd say Harris played better than Hayward after the ASB.

I like Hayward, and the idea that Utah just hasn't maximized him, especially regarding efficiency, I can get behind that, but if he's the prized piece at #3, I'd almost rather keep the pick.

EDIT: And if you were curious about Harris in Detroit vs Hayward in Utah, I did this:

Hayward has expressed his unhappiness in Utah and the Jazz are attempting to accommodate him per league sources...

From what I've seen, this guy isn't really anything more than a Jazz fan/writer, though. I'm not sure that I believe the rumor either, but I'm not sure that this guy is any more reliable than the source that put out the rumor in the first place.

He's an actual Jazz reporter.

Not sure how accurate this rumor is, but it would make sense for them to trade Hayward if they feel he is going to leave next summer anyways. From all that I've read, we're a top suitor for him next summer due to the Butler connection, so him hearing that we were trying to trade for him could've made him request such a trade. Who knows?

Given that, I'd really only be interested in giving up the #3 for Hayward if we were getting back Favors in the deal, too. Amir, Crowder, JJ, 3, and 16 for Hayward and Favors? If not, then I'll just be happy with signing him next summer rather than wasting assets to get him.

Just wake me up tomorrow morning....

Wouldn't surprise me if there are 10 different rumors tomorrow morning as well.

Yeah, a local newspaper writer for like the Deseret News or something. What I'm saying is people are saying his "connections" aren't really "connections." He seems to be in the same reliability tier as the source who leaked the rumor in the first place.

If he doesn't want to be in Utah, then we are in the driver's seat.

We don't NEED him...he is not the missing piece(s).  However, for the "right" price, which doesn't include #3 pick, we'll take him off your hands Utah.
