Thought this might be a fun little exercise: Given the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, how should the 2006-2012 NBA lotteries played out (verdict is still out on 2013-present)? I am only ambitious enough to provide a quick five rundown by year:

2006
1. LaMarcus Alridge (2)
2. Kyle Lowry (24)
3. Rajon Rondo (21)
4. Paul Millsap (47)
5. Brandon Roy (6)

2007
1. Kevin Durant (2)
2. Al Horford (3)
3. Marc Gasol (48)
4. Joakim Noah (9)
5. Mike Conley (4)

2008
1. Russell Westbrook (4)
2. Kevin Love (5)
3. DeAndre Jordan (35)
4. Derrick Rose (1)
5. Brooke Lopez (10)

2009
1. Stephen Curry (7)
2. Blake Griffin (1)
3. James Harden (3)
4. DeMar DeRozan (9)
5. Jeff Teague (19)

2010
1. DeMarcus Cousins (5)
2. Paul George (10)
3. John Wall (1)
4. Derrick Favors (3)
5. Gordon Hayward (9)

2011
1. Klay Thompson (11)
2. Kawhi Leonard (15)
3. Kyrie Irving (1)
4. Isaiah Thomas (60)
5. Jimmy Butler (30)

2012
1. Anthony Davis (1)
2. Damian Lillard (6)
3. Draymond Green (35)
4. Andre Drummond (9)
5. Harrison Barnes (7)

Key observation: Most of the top five best players in a given draft were chosen in the lottery, but you can also win the proverbial lottery in the second-round from time to time...

generally agree with your post, but Id put Leonard over Thompson and Butler over Thomas. IT and Klay's scoring isnt enough to offset the advantage of Butler and Leonard in other aspect of the game. I also think that while Roy was a very good player, he had too short a career,  making me put Reddick, Sefalosha or Gay above him.

I know how hard it would have been - time consuming and not necessarily accurate when there aren't 30 good players

But I would like to see a complete 1st round re draft of all the years
Just to see who was available and who we missed

2007 - I think gasol over horford
2010 - George over cousins
2011 - Leonard > butler > Thompson > Irving > thomas
2012 - I think eventually Drummond will surpass green but for now green over Drummond

Could you explain Butler over Klay? I agree on the rest.

Leonard was great in the Finals two years ago and is obviously the better defender, but game 6 of the 2016 WCF was one of the most impressive displays of shooting I have ever witnessed, so I need to give the nod to Klay.

I chose Thomas over Butler because I've seen Thomas carry a team into the playoffs whereas I have yet to really see that from Butler. Besides, his argyle sock monkey disturbs me...

Yeah, it's a shame his knees did not hold up. 2x All-NBA player, though, so I gotta give him the nod over those three. I am not even sure one of those three have an all-star appearance between them.

Drummond better do it soon.  Lots of guys with lots of talent never progress.

2006 - I'd probably put Rondo over Lowry. At his prime, Rondo was a much, much better player than Lowry's prime.

2007 - That's a good ranking.

2008 - I think Rose is too low. He was an MVP and multiple time All-Star before his injuries. I think he's definitely above DJ, maybe even Love, too.

2009 - That's a good ranking, though it could be argued that Griffin and Harden should be switched.

2010 - This one is tough, because those first three could go in any order. I'd honestly probably be fine with either George or DMC at number 1, and Wall could even have an argument there, too.

2011 - I think it goes Leonard, Klay, Butler, Irving, IT. As others have said, Leonard and Butler being excellent two-way players gives them the benefit of the doubt over Klay and Irving/IT, respectively.

2012 - I think Crowder and Beal have just as much of a claim to number 5 as Harrison Barnes.

Rondo and Milsap have had better careers than Lowry. Rose should be a spot or two higher, he was MVP after all. DMC should be third. Overall good list.

Mostly agree with this, but Klay over Kawhi seems egregious. Kawhi is probably the second best player in the entire NBA, and Klay isn't even the second best player on his own team.
