You have to take risks to be successful in this league; this would probably be too much of a risk.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Its much bigger risk than hoping Bender to be a big contributor on the team.

No. They would only trade him for #3 if he wasn't alright.

Hmm.... trading the #3 pick (full rookie contract control for the third best player in this draft) for two years control (one guaranteed, one team option) on a guy who hasn't played in over two years and is of questionable status to play in this next one?

In the absence of further data regarding the long term health prospectus of young Mr. Embiid, I'll have to pass on this idea.

If someone could convince me that:

a) Embiid was 100% healed and not at risk for further injuries related to the foot stress fractures and
b) Embiid was 100% certain to be able to recover his game fitness and such that he isn't at extra risk to have some _other_ injury related to having gotten way out of shape and
c) Embiid was 100% certain to be able to recover his basketball skills to a high enough level to worth putting on an NBA court

then I could be convinced to think about this.
i think it's more that embiid might have superstar potential and the players available at #3 might have a ceiling as "starter".

That's probably a grand exaggeration.  I'm sure someone taken after the top 2 in this draft will end up being a star.  But who knows if it will be someone taken at 3.  And there's still plenty to be concerned about with embiid. M

That said, if I was a gambling man, I wouldn't mind throwing some money down on embiid as a long shot rookie of the year candidate next season.  If healthy, he still might be very special.  And I guess that's why they came up with that trade idea in that article.

I don't think I'd have the guts to make that move.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Hell to the no.

Embiid was a project center 2 years ago. Now, he's a project center with foot problems who hasn't played basketball in 2 years.

It's funny, because we are actually the one team in position to be totally careless with our pick. We finished the season so well that we actually have the #23 pick based on our record. The #3 pick is totally undeserved from a performance standpoint.

Still, I would have a hard time getting behind this one. Like others have said, we would need a crystal ball.

Yeah I get that logic.  We're a team that can afford to swing for a home run... which is why a lot of people want us to go for Bender on the premise that Bender has the biggest boom/bust potential.

If trade subject to full medical, and docs were comfortable he was healed and good to go, yeah, I would take the chance. He is that good. But Philly would not trade him if those were the facts.

I can't imagine Danny would ever do such a thing. He was the #3 pick in the draft two years ago and still hasn't played an NBA game, there is no way he is still worth a #3. That isn't to say he can't somehow find a way to be a productive NBA player, but you don't trade the best pick we've had since Billups on a guy who has yet to prove he can stay on the court, never mind prove to be a perennial all-star.

He was consensus number one pick in a more highly regarded draft two years ago, and only slid to three due to foot break.

The #3 = no way. Too many injury problems.

The #23 = sure. Fair value given the injuries.
