Ak47 was a great player for a few seasons. Don't think Bender is even close to his athletic ability in his pre-injury days. But Bender should have that kind of game with Pau athleticism.

For the record...Bender's BB Hero is Toni Kukoc.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

His buyout is probably immaterial.
His game is roughly a poor man's Jerebko or Omri Casspi.

Lol Omri casspi comparison

I think bender is unique
Closest comparisons probably porzingis + bargnani,
He's got the body type of KG, but doesnt have the athleticism and defense of him

He can shoot the 3 and has similar height like porzingis + bargnani,
He is a very good passer for his size and position sort of like pau gasol but doesnt have the post moves or rebounding

hopefully ainge can evaluate him more closely during workouts

1. He'll be over immediately
2. His buyout is $1.3 million
3. I see him as very similar to Pau

I see the Pau comparison a lot here. But I dont really get it. Can you explain it?
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I don't know who the best comparison is for Bender, but it's definitely a tall, skinny European guy, because Bender is tall, skinny, and from Europe.

His buyout is, I believe, 1 million.  It's not much.  Should not at all be an impediment to him coming over right away.  That's my understanding from what I've read.

From the scouting and analysis I've read about his game, you should picture somebody kind of like Kirilenko on defense and kind of like a rich man's Jonas Jerebko on offense ("Good" Jonas anyway, like we saw in the playoffs).

Wow!! Do you remember what prime Kirilenko was like on defense?  If this kid is like Kirilenko defensively, sign me up.

He reminds me a lot of one young guy on Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Israeli league, I can't for the life of me remember his name, though.  Something like Drake Straightener, maybe?

He's nothing like Pau, I am pretty sure that at 20 Pau was MVP of Spanish league and his Basketball IQ was off the charts for someone his age, just think in 2001 he was 3rd overall pick at a time when international players were not valued as much as today...that is saying something.

The only similarity i see is they are both 7'0-7'1 and were both pretty skinny at the same age.

The skill set of AK47 with Pau's athleticism doesn't do it for me.  If it were the other way around, I'd be all in.

I'd say he plays like Nikola Mirotic or Toni Kukoc with good defensive potential.

1. Physique
2. Numbers at ages in similar situations (Pau at 19, Bender at 18)
3. Good passer, somewhat versatile offensive game with range out to the perimeter
4. Draft pedigree

I guess his game might not be that similar, but his profile as a prospect is similar. I'll admit to not having tracked Pau when he was a prospect, but his scouting reports are pretty similar to Bender's.

Of the comparisons I've seen in this thread, a Kirilenko-like player seems most accurate to me.  Everything I've read and seen suggests that he's a jack-of-all-trades type, not an elite scorer like Dirk or Love or even Pau.  (I personally don't see the Pau comparison, in terms of game.  Bender seems a lot more perimeter-oriented.)

Kirilenko was a three-time first or second all-defensive player who was loved by some advanced metrics.  That plus a three point shot (AK was only 31% for his career) feels like a star who won't necessarily be recognized as a star by casual fans.

One more name - Toni Kukoc
He is a very willing passer, unselfish.
Both are similar in size, with Bender being a bit longer and stronger at this age.
For the croatians sports newspapers Toni described Bender basicaly as:
"He is very talanted, he has a long way to go."
Kukoc is generaly very critical, probably due to his high standards. He won everything at every playing level multiple times. Except olympic gold in 1992, but that's a gold in my book.
Bender will have one opportunity Toni didn't have.
He won't be bulked up just for the sake of being stronger.
In the 90s streinght was sacreficed for the sake of quickness and agility.
