I know this was discussed in the past but what is the status of the Memphis pick owed to us? (I copied and pasted below)
The way I see it is that Denver will get their pick next year (unless it's 1-5). This seems like a likely scenario as they're not top 5 bad, though that is still to be determined. After next year though they could be bottom dwellers for a while and this could turn into another lottery pick as an unprotected pick in 2021.

2019 first round draft pick from Memphis
Memphis' 1st round pick to Boston protected for selections 1-8 in 2019 (conveyable if Memphis conveys a 1st round pick to Denver in 2017) and 1-6 in 2020 (conveyable if Memphis has conveyed a 1st round pick to Denver by 2018) and unprotected in 2021 [Boston-Memphis-New Orleans, 1/12/2015]

Yep you've pretty much got it.

Most likely scenario is it conveys to Denver in 2017, then to us in 2019 protected 1-8, 1-6 in 2020 and unprotected in 2021.

Best case scenario for us is that they convey to Denver then suck hard for two years so we get the unprotected pick in 2021. Then some lottery luck  ;D

Interesting wording on that though "1-6 in 2020 (conveyable if Memphis has conveyed a 1st round pick to Denver by 2018)" Is that saying the 1-6 protection is only if Memphis convey to Denver in 2018? Or is the protection there regardless?

I thought I had read somewhere that we don't get the pick until Denver gets theirs and then we have to wait at least a year after Denver gets it. I also thought that the pick could be extinguished or turned into a second rounder but I didn't see anything worded like that on realgm. It could be a moot point if Memphis doesn't get into the top 5 next year. After that the pick could become another valuable trade chip or a top lotto pick. Danny, what have you done. No one will want to deal with you if you keep stealing :)

What you heard is right. The Stepian rule means a team cannot give up consecutive 1st round picks. That is they must have a 1st round pick every other year.

So if Memphis give up their 2017 pick to Denver, they must keep their own pick in 2018.That means they cannot give us a pick until 2019.

But if they are one of the worst 5 then Memphis keep their 2017 pick. So Denver might get their 2018 pick, Memphis must keep their 2019 pick and we would get the 2020 pick

Because the pick is unprotected in 2021 it means there will be a pick conveyed to Boston for sure. So no turning into a 2nd round pick.

Trader Danny struck gold with this one I think!

The protection is there regardless, the wording is just there to clarify that we cannot get their pick in 2020 unless Denver gets it in 2017 or 2018
I'm bitter.

TP, thanks for clarifying. So we want them to fall into a long rebuild until 2021!

The trade on draft night was for a Clippers pick, not Memphis.

Here's how the two picks work:

2019 first round draft pick from L.A. Clippers
If at least two years after the L.A. Clippers conveyed a 1st round pick to Toronto, then the L.A. Clippers' 1st round pick to Boston (via Memphis) protected for selections 1-14 in 2019 and 1-14 in 2020; if the L.A. Clippers have not conveyed a 1st round pick to Boston by 2020, then the L.A. Clippers will instead convey their 2022 2nd round pick to Boston [L.A. Clippers-Memphis, 2/18/2016; Boston-Memphis, 6/23/2016]

Thanks for the clarification, knuckleballer.
So the Clippers could be the Clippers again in 2-3 years and we'll get only the 2nd rounder in '22 lol. That's rough. We traded the 1st and 5th picks of the second round (which I'd think are valuable to a team without a first rounder that are a top 10 team in the league) for a possible top 15 2nd rounder in 2022. I know we weren't going to be use all of these 2nd rounders but thought we'd get at least a late 1st rounder for it. We still may so we'll see in 2019..2019!!
