Would the Pels be so desperate to dump Asik that they would trade down?

That way Danny could take Bender at #3 and then hopefully have Hield or Murray still sitting there at #6.

Of course, Asik has the least tradeable contract in the NBA. http://www.nola.com/pelicans/index.ssf/2016/01/omer_asik_has_least_tradeable.html

Is getting the #6 worth it?

I doubt it. Pels need top talent. More important than Asik's contract considering the rising cap.

I don't think New Orleans are that desperate. They still seem strangely committed to keeping Anthony Davis at the PF and putting a center next to him. I think they still see value in Asik - which I do not understand. They clearly have not worked well together.

I would be happy to do this deal to move up to #6.

Could also offer a similar deal to Minny for Pekovic and #5.  Could throw in James Young or the future pick that Minny owes us.

I'm sure Minny and N.O. would both rather pick up Murray or Hield and team them with their young bigs. I'm just dreaming out loud.

I was thinking about this as well. But, I feel NO would need more incentive. I think both the #16 and the #23 might be required.

Instead of Amir, Jerebko+Young+Hunter would match salaries. [Although, I'm hesitant to move Jerebko.]

Considering how much the cap has risen, the 11 million they owe him shouldn't restrict them too much.

I'd be fine with #16, #23, Jerebko, Young and Hunter if it got us #6.

With #3 and #6 we'd  hanger a very  good shot at a star.  Could gamble on Bender with #3 and still have one of Hield/Dunn/Murray at #6.

Wouldn't mind gambling on Bender in this case.

I'd actually say no to this. Preserving double-max flexibility for 2017 is much more important than getting #6 in this draft.

Between now and 2017, couldn't Boston send Asik out to another team?

If dumping Asik's salary could be done at a reasonable price, I assume NOP would have done it already.

Me too. And don't understate the value of #16 and especially Amir.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Since so many teams have cap space this summer I doubt teams will be wiling to give up high value picks in order to shed a bad contract.

However, if the Pelicans feel like Asik can't help them immediately and Amir makes them better right now, then maybe the Pelicans make a short sighted short term move.

This deal makes a lot more sense if we are giving up 16, 23 and 31 than just 16 and 45.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Just wait for them to amnesty Asik rather than this trade.
