In a recent Boston.com article DA mentioned how this off season has so many moving parts that he has to have contingency plans ranging from A to Z.

Let assume A. Is landing the 1st pick and being confident in Durant, B. Landing later pick and still being confident in Durant, and continuing down to include plans that net Butler/Okafor or any other higher profile player to be had. If all those big FA / trading for a high profile player possibilities fall thru, the Cs 1st pick is 4-6, and they have little to no hope of Durant coming to Boston do they role the dice with either of the  following gamble of a trades?

(1) Cs trade the kings #16 + #31 + Young

      Kings trade Rudy Gay

(2) Cs trade pick #4-6 + #23

Kings trade Pick #8 + Gay

For starters I really do not know nor do I think anyone really knows what the Kings plan on doing. I do know that Karl has said that the organization is mess and that Cousins and Gay are a bad on court pairing. I'm sure the owner will have grand plans for the roster but at the end of the day a trade for picks may be their best plan. They may be able to unload Gay's contract then turn around and offer big money to a player who is a better fit next to cousins like R Anderson or H Barnes.

(1) is a clear cut picks for Gay trade the logic being that Gay becomes the Cs starting PF. He will basically take Sullys minutes as a starter and Turners role off the bench as a scoring option. This could blow up in the celtics face but worst case he is a one year rental (he does have a team option but is likely to opt out). Gay has his issues. He has never been on a winning team, isnt a great 3pt shooter, at PF will struggle to defend the post and rebound. However at 30 if he buys into this team he could revive his career. He has all the size to play a small ball 4 (6'8 and extremely long) and while not a great 3pt shooter he will keep teams honest from the perimeter. His ability to score in isolation would effectively replace Turners role as the Cs secondary iso option but he would bring additional versatility with his size. He can very well average 15-18ppg and 6-7rb per as the Cs starting PF.

(2) this trade bring all of the positives and negatives as above. The added piece of trading down from #4-6 would take the Cs out of the likely guard portion of the lottery (Murray, Hield and Dunn) and into the secondary big man portion (Poeltl, Ellenson, Chriss). In this situation the Cs could end up drafting Chriss (sky high potential) then one of the Euro bigs at #16 (zubac or Zizic and bring in Gay to help right away. This type of trade may also force the Kings to add additional pieces to the deal (maybe Koufas?). The kings moving up would likely mean drafting Dunn and locking down their long term PG.

I hope this is the rejected Celtics plan.

Gay has historically only helped teams win more games right after they trade him away.

He is the current NBA player payed highly for his big stats with little positive impact on the floor.

He is the big time stat hanger.

I'm with wdleehi.  Every team that has Gay seemingly tries to trade him, and when they do, they seem to improve.

If we're going to go the route of getting a small ball PF, I'd be more inclined to just sign Deng.

Ignoring the merits of Gay for a second -- if he's even in the Celtics' plans, it's certainly not at the top.  Accordingly, making a draft night trade for Gay doesn't make sense, because clearly they want to leave room for Durant at that point in time.

I still believe in Rudy Gay, and I think he does some things the Celts need.  He's not actually paid very much, either. Gay at 12 will look like a huge bargain this summer.

I don't buy Gay as a selfish chucker either. 15 FGA in 35 minutes a game is not crazy for a wing shooting 45% overall and operating as a top scoring option.

Before Rondo came to Sacramento, he was averaging 3+ assists per game,  as well.

None of which is to say he's not flawed, and inadequate in a lead scoring role. His defense has not been as good as it ought to be, either.

I agree that Deng or Marvin Williams would be preferable.

Gay could help the Celts though. Not saying he definitely would. But his athleticism and individual scoring would be much appreciated when the Celts are having trouble putting the ball in the basket in the half court.

Gay for 23, 31 and 45 is ok. Will he buy into playing tougher and playing some PF?

I agree and that has been my long standing view of Gay, however when you look at where he played he has always been asked to do to much. On a TEAM like the Cs he like turner may find his ideal role and flourish. To me the potential benefits out way the risk.

The additional moves that go along with acquiring Gay will also be important. Basically Gay would be taking over Sully and Turners roles. The team can either retain Amir or try to find an upgrade at the center who will hopefully provide high end rebounding. With both Crowder and Gay able to play at the small 4 then team may also be open to bringing in a shooting specialist at the wing. Maybe a player like Dudley or Rush. Moves like this would leave the Cs with a much more dynamic offense then the one we saw get shut down by the Hawks,

Man, I'd love to see Ainge sign and trade Sullinger for Gay this summer (assuming Durant stays in OKC).

I guess that I don't really understand how on draft night we will have solid information about all the big free agents and trade possibilities. I just don't think that the timing and logistics of your two trade proposals really work. Do we really want to draft on spec on behalf of SAC for Rudy Gay? If everything turns to mud for us later on in the summer, we might think about trading future picks and/or some of what would be a small army of young prospects we have drafted over the last few years(Smart excluded).

I really hope not. Rudy Gay manages to make every team he's on worse, and he's the single worst ball-stopper I've ever seen.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Basically this.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

No more so than Rudy Gay.
