Well, who's doing the remembering?

I'll always think of Ainge the player first. Whining to the refs, mouthing off to opponents, and getting bit by Tree.

The tree fight was pure EPIC.

"Tree bites Man"...LOL.

Ironically, listen to the commentary around the 1 min mark...history hopefully repeats itself but with more positive outcomes.

I think he has more of an opportunity to leave a legacy as a GM. I'm leaning towards GM.

I'd never seen Ainge / Tree fight.

Before this forum topic, I'd have said GM. Now all I can see is Ainge tackling and taking down a much bigger player in the middle of a game. Ainge is a player first always.

I can see why Ainge drafted Smart.

TP to whoever posted that Tree fight link.
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

I remember him going on Jordan's throat in the finals.

I'll always remember him as a player as one of the worst trades in Celtic history. I mark it when Red( rip) started to lose his touch. Not that they traded him but for pickney and Kleine.
was shocked at that trade and disappointed that's all they got for him.  they needed healthy big men but they needed someone better than those 2

anyone who watched Danny's career will likely remember him best as either Tree Rollins' chew toy or the guy Mchale wouldn't pass to because, to paraphrase Mchale, "even when I'm double-teamed I still shoot a higher percentage than you when you're open".

Agreed. He's got a ton of time to continue building his legacy as a GM.

Ainge will be remembered for making two of the greatest trades in NBA history.

It should be a combination of both resulting in his number being retired once he retires from his GM duties. I think if each role stood on their own Ainge wouldn't be worthy of a jersey retirement but the whole volume of work is as good as any player/gm i can think of other than Jerry West.

I'd love the C's to retire Ainge's 44 and unretire number 1 and 2 and instead replace them with Walter and Red's names similar to Jim Loscutoff.

I'm pretty sure we had just played the Kings the previous night. It seemed like such a rash decision. He was a big name ,excellent shooter, ball handler, a pest, winner, would dive into the stands. I was so disgusted. It was totally a rash decision at the deadline.

One more issue is that they needed to find playing time for Reggie Lewis.

It wasn't just that we traded him. It's just that it was a rush and we got much less than his value. That was the horrible part.

Right now, easily as a player. Major factor for a great Celtics era.

He has a chance to flip that - if he can turn all these draft picks and players into a contender.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."
