I'd like Danny to stay far, far away.

Agreed.  Paying $20 million to a stats-chasing shot-blocker who adds zero offensively more than five feet from the basket seems like a terrible idea. Add in question marks about his continued motivation and his defensive fundamentals. This guy is a giant red flag.

Not a very big fan of him.  I think he does chase blocks some.  The fact that he can't do much on offense, even pass.  Plus the other issues.  I'm accepting of some of that stuff for sure (fan of KG, Smart, Cousins for example) but he falls more into the Artest camp where it just seems crazy.

Not a good fit for CBS system either, I have read that MIA is actually better defensively without him on the floor.

Thoughts to ponder....

I can see us signing him if we can't get anyone else, to say we did something.   He is a big upgrade over Sully too.  Shoots over 60%, more RPG 11 to 8 and he can protect the rim.

But I see him being a secondary target, not a primary.

Pretty much. There's no denying that he is a spectacular shot-blocker, but I'm not sure what that really means. There's no sense in maxing a defensive specialist who might not even be good at defense.

 Biyambo= back up plan.
Howard, are you serious? The guy hates winning, he's getting old fast, injury history, no way would I pay him over Whiteside.

Festus is a decent option, but would much rather have H.W.

Howard and Biyombo have proven to be excellent defenders in this league, while Whiteside's defensive impact is questionable to say the least.

We don't need any more offensively challenged players. At any position.

No to Whiteside. No to Bioymbo as well.

And no to any other player at any position who shoots like the players we already have.

Offensively he has shown flashes
But I need to see a full season of him down it to offer a max

But he probably signs to a party city like LA and Miami
Rather than with Boston

I would raise an eyebrow and think about it, but honestly I think I'd have to say no.

Whiteside has some potential no doubt about that, but he's a very big gamble.  I don't think he's a max contract player personally, and I think giving him a max contract would be throwing around max money just for the sake of throwing around max money.

Whiteside definitely fills some needs (rebounding, rim protection) but his defensive versatility is highly questionable, and his lack of offensive talent makes it difficult because we don't have a scoring big who we can put alongside him.  That means if we add whiteside we essentially have no front court offence, which makes it incredibly easy for opposing teams to defend out perimeter guys.

If we could pick up a quality offensive PF (e.g. Kevin Love, Ryan Anderson, Blake Griffin, Ben Simmons) then I wouldn't be as concerned, as we wouldn't need him to score.  As the team is currently made up though we need more offensive from our bigs, and Whiteside doesn't offer a lot.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing him, but a max is too rich for me...and I think everybody knows he's not signing anywhere for less then that.

You're describing your boy Cousins right? ;)

All jokes aside, who says Whiteside even wants to come here? I think he is a legit talent, maybe not 20 million good, but he makes an impact on the game no doubt, and he would certainly fill the rim-protector role that we need.

I don't think he is our number one priority, nor are we his in free agency, but depending on the way things shake out this summer, he would be a nice contingency plan.

Honestly, I'd probably rather just use one of our picks to get a big in the draft, or else try to work a trade for Nerlens Noel.

I feel Noel could be 85% - 90% as good as Whiteside in a year or two and he wouldn't cost us such a silly amount of money.

I feel that Noel can be maybe 50%-60% as good as Whiteside.

Yeah, opponents score fewer points and shoot a lower percentage with Whiteside OFF the court. That's held true the last two seasons.

He's already well over 60% as good, and he's five years younger.
