The NFL draft strikes me as the one where #1 is the most meaningless.

TEN made out like bandits here.

Rams were on the fortunate side of the RGIII trade four years ago yet seemed to have learned nothing from it.

Paying a ransom for the likes of Goff or Wentz?  Yikes.   Looks like they're desperate to make a splash in the LA market.

In a few months, it will be interesting to compare this trade with whatever the Celtics end up doing. Clearly, there's a difference in the value of the picks at the top of the draft between basketball and football, but I'm curious as to how the results compare.

The Celtics will look a lot better than the Rams.

I'd say baseball is more meaningless of the 4 major sports.

baseball definitely is, but for football it really depends on the draft.  Seems like a silly move to make in this draft, but who would you rather have Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf.

Right. That package would be a steal if it was Manning at the top. That type of sure thing HOF QB talent is so ultra-rare that you pay whatever the asking price is.

But, there's nobody close to that draft grade this year.

Apparently the deal was finalized last night, but they held off on announcing it so as to not take anything away from Kobe's last game.

It's funny that the Rams would make the trade, considering they were huge beneficiaries of the last time a team traded a humongous package of picks to move up in the draft.

Meanwhile, the Pats are like, "First round picks?  Pff.  Who needs first round picks?  We just cut a guy we used a 1st rounder on like, two years ago."
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

very strange 1st round.  Lots of teams move up and then take unexpected players.  Some players dropping like flies and others going very high.

Yeah, one of the weirder rounds I remember.  I think Tennessee outthought themselves in passing on Tunsil.  The guy who would have fit perfectly at #1 is sitting there at #8.  Take him, instead of a right tackle.
