One of the many reasons I admire Bill Walton:

As part of their fan appreciation activities Wednesday, at halftime the Celtics honored members of their 1965-66, 1975-76 and 1985-86 championship teams. Boston legends Bill Russell, Kevin McHale and Bill Walton were all in attendance. Walton, a member of the '86 championship team, opted to be in Boston while his son -- Warriors assistant Luke Walton -- was in California coaching Golden State as it vied for an NBA-record 73rd win.

TP for that.  I just read his new book, Back from the Dead.  He saved some of his highest praise in it for the Celtics and, especially, Larry Bird.

Here is a nice excerpt from the book that was recently published in Boston.com:

I'm a huge Bill Walton.  Been a fan all the way back to his UCLA days.  I remember being devastated when UCLA lost to NC State and David Thompson.

It was a dream come true when he came to the Celtics.  Unfortunately he was only able to stay healthy for just that one season.  But what a season it was!  I remember they asked Larry Bird right after we won the championship that year if we could repeat and he said it all depended on Bill Walton's health.

I would recommend reading "The Last Banner"

Details how that '86 team was assembled.  Great chapter on Bill Walton.

TP for this. Nice excerpt and for someone brushing up on their Celtics history, great insight into Walton and Red.
