All this talk of Butler being the trade target has got me thinking, would you rather take the trade of Smart, Crowder, Nets 16 for Butler or try to sign DeRozan in the summer?

I've taken the last 2 years as reference to keep things relevant.

The regular stats favour DeRozan slightly but it's close. Higher PPG (23.4 vs 21.4 this year), More FT attempts and higher FT%. Butler has slightly higher rebound, block and steal stats.

Looking at the advanced stats Butler edges DeRozan in PER, TS%, ORB%, WS/48. He dominates DeRozan in BPM stats and the resulting VORP. DeRozan gets the better in FTr, AST% and WS.

Interesting to look at is that Butler hasn't taken a huge leap from last year. His FAs are up by 1 per game and his PPG is up by 3, AST% up but aside from that it's very similar to 2014-15. DeRozan on the other hand has improved on almost every statistic. Of particular note are the PER increase from 17.4 to 21.5, the TS% increase from 0.51 to 0.549 and the WS from 4 to 7.6.

Jimmy Butler will make $17,552,209 next year, DeRozan is a FA likely to get the max at $23m. Considering what we would have to give up to get Butler compared to the extra money spent on DeRozan, I would be tempted to chase DeRozan instead. He's primarily a slasher but has amazing body control and gets the the FT line a lot. It would also allow us to use those assets on chasing another big name to be the third star alongside Thomas and DeRozan

Edit: The attachment won't attach, anyone know how to upload an image?

I would never give up that much for Butler.  Crowder is the heart of the team, while Smart is a young up an coming point guard who is going to be a defensive stopper.  Plus a top 4 pick in this draft.
