On draft night or next year. Not necessarily for Boston. Although Most would trade the Brooklyn pick for him right?
Incorrect depending on the pick and the prospects.
I'm not a huge fan of his. He's a shoot-first, pass-second, 24 year old, high volume PG who is going to get paid about $20m a year for the next three years. Irving's stats have actually gone down in many areas since he was a rookie. Roughly, he averages (per 36) 22 points, 6 assists, 3.5 boards and 1.5 steals. Very respectable stats but...
...the Celtics already have IT at $7m a year. His per 36 this year is 24 points, 7.5 assists, 3 boards and 1.3 steals. Now I'm not saying IT is as good as Irving. Irving is the better player but for the price IT is a far better
value.
The biggest issue to me is that I haven't seen much of a growth in Irving's game. Playing with Lebron and Love, I'd have expected his scoring to drop but his assists and steals to go up as he concentrated on facilitating and playing defense. That hasn't happened. At this point you have to assume he is what he is and that's all he's going to be...and if that's the case, is he a guy who is significantly better than IT in terms of leading a team to a Championship? I'm not seeing it.
