As far as unrestricted free agents go (not counting players who might become free agents due to a player option or ETO), Horford is easily #2 behind Durant in terms of being worthy of the max.

Agreed. But there might still only be a single player who's actually worthy of the max. Worthy in the future performance sense, not past and present performance.

Misleading title -- this isn't Woj saying we have a great shot, it's Woj reporting that the Celts believe they have a great shot.   >:(

Yep. It's still news, but this is misleading.

It is misleading but when was the last time it leaked that the Celtics were optimistic they could sign a max free agent? It's still good news.

I'd happily sign Horford to a max contract, there isn't a better way we could conceivably use our cap space. Woj said that Horford is on a short list of guys Durant wants to play with.

More realistically, I think a Horford/Love tandem would be a huge step forward.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Would he take a pay cut if he knew Durant would come?
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Draft Night is gonna be huge--if Danny can trade our picks plus salary to get an All Star--or close to it----then sign Big Free Agents....hmmm.

There are at least a few ways, aren't there?

1) A trade for a better, younger player than Horford without having to send out any contracts attached to good players from our end.

2) Saving it for a better free agent in 2017 when the free agent class will be deeper and better, potentially including the best free agent from this upcoming class if Durant opts for a 1 + 1 contract this summer.

3) Not having an inferior version of Horford for nearly 30 million a year in 2019 and 2020 taking up an enormous percentage of our cap space when the exploded cap will have retreated back to semi-normalcy.

I'd rather trade for Okafor than sign Horford.

There was also a recent report that Horford is one of the guys that Durant would like to team up with this summer, or at least thinks would be a good match with himself. A lineup of IT, Bradley, Crowder, Durant, and Horford would be pretty freaking sick, especially if we could resign Turner for the second unit.

Horford does not want to play center though. He wants to stick with PF. Sully or Johnson should be at C

He plays C for Atlanta now doesn't he? I like him much more as the center than a PF, especially with the trend to go smaller now in the league.

KG said the same thing but with some bigs it's better for them to play C as they age verses PF.

For 4 years I think I would overpay for him.  Even if in the last year or 2 he declined rapidly he could be a useful expiring contract to use in a big trade.  He would fit our culture here.

Mother of god I believe Horford's max is $30 million with a $25 million cap hold.
Yikes .

No. That is not how it works at all.  His max will be around $25 million.  Cap holds only exist for keeping your own free agents.

Not in love with by any means, one of those bigs who plays further and further from the basket as his career goes on. Don't get me wrong he's better than anyone we have but I prefer a younger more athletic big not one that gets injured continually.

And if $25m is the number. :o

Not at that price, he is not worth it.

Sure he is.  Based on our cap situation, it'd be conceivable we pay him the max and still don't reach the salary floor.
