In Jeff Clark's latest article http://www.celticsblog.com/2016/2/27/11120786/what-if-the-mystery-trade-target-wasnt-jahlil-okafor-was-it-kevin - one of the users commented:

Correct
Jimmy Butler was the target. A friend works in the front office, the deal agreed to was Jimmy Butler for Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder, and Nets ’16 Pick. Agreed to by Celtics and Bulls, but Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf vetoed the trade. The Celtics will try again for Butler in the offseason.

100%, I have no agenda to push, and nothing to gain from promoting bad information. I know people will challenge or question this, but I wanted other Celtics fans to hear this because when I heard it I was floored. The goal was to get Butler to attract KD as a free agent. But now the offseason goal is to get two of: K Love, KD, and Butler. This is the goal, but obviously that doesn’t guarantee anything.

Seems like a ton to give up but butler does replace crowder and is on what will be a great contact, when the money comes in, for a long time.

To get something you got to give something and Butler to me is approaching that kawhi Leonard, Paul George, draymond green tier.

The real question is will any of the outgoing players and assets ever be as good as the incoming player/asset? Butler is nice as an incoming player. To me only the Brooklyn pick has a chance to be that good. I'm not sure smart ever can be and I don't see crowder getting that much better than he is realistically.

Again I do think it's a lot to give up. Hopefully the Mavericks pick can be lottery and we could move that instead of one of the other three in the outgoing deal. Or maybe the Brooklyn pick becomes so good we can do it straight up or even get butler and incentive for just the pick. Though if the Brooklyn pick is the number one pick I can't see it being moved at all.

I always think Butler is the only possibility
You get Buter and sign KD+Horford
You get

IT

KD
Pf

Yes, all 3 can be as good if not better than Butler
Bulls screwed that one up

I have absolutely no idea how I feel about this trade.

Smart is the tough one to lose, but I think I do this.

But more likely none of the 3 end up making a single all star game.

Yeah, I thought J.Butler was the most likely target so I believe that.

That trade package is an overpay though. I am guessing that it isn't accurate.

My guess is that the trade on offer was Crowder OR Smart & the 2016 Nets pick. That is something I could believe.

Awaiting LarBrd denial of aforementioned rumor.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

I'm not sure I would be happy with this deal. I really love Butler, but I would want to put him next to Crowder at the 2, not have him replace Crowder at the 3. Jimmy is most effective at the 2 because he can bully smaller defenders and draw fouls, that doesn't happen at the 3.

However, if we had any chance at a Durant then trading Crowder for Jimmy makes more sense.

Personally, I think that Durant would be more interested if we can add Butler or Love and Horford, but I think the best we can do is come in 2nd. I expect Durant to go back to OKC for a year then we could have a chance in 2017.

If something like this happens, then I will give all credit to this guy, but for now i'm skeptical.

But, hmm. I'd like to believe this rumor (mainly because I want the target to be Butler-and the fact that Butler DOES make more sense than Okafor), but that seems like a gross overpay. I'd consider it if McDermott came back also.

Not in my opinion.

Crowder keeps getting better and better.  Smart has a lot of potential.  And I like players at the top of this draft.  I really like Butler but that isn't good value.
