As things stand today, the Thunder are $12.417 million over the luxury tax line and facing a tax bill of more than $22.29 million.

It’s believed that the Thunder have made both Steve Novak ($3.75 million) and guard D.J. Augustin ($3 million) available in trade and are looking for very little in return for either player. Shedding both players would reduce the Thunder’s tax bill by $13.62 million. It’s also believed the Thunder may be willing to include big man Mitch McGary or Josh Huestis in the deal in place of draft picks, which would further reduce their tax burden.

If the proposed Love trade goes down and we end up with an open roster spot would anyone be inclined to trade a pick for Mitch McGary?

they are including McGary instead of a pick to move Novak or Augustin, not looking to just move McGary.

This is where Portland and Philly can really make out.  They can take Novak, Augustin, McGary, and Huestis and send nothing back to OKC.  The Cavs have a trade exception, but I don't think they would want Novak or Augustin (though you never know).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Ah ok I read that a little wrong. Although the same principle applies. If for example we traded Sully, Bradley and Jerebko and received Love we would have 2 open roster spots. So we could take Novak and McGary

1) Move Lee to Portland for nothing, clearing a roster spot and netting $4.5mil;

2) Take back Novak and OKC's 2020 1st (we'll be below the cap, so no need to trade away a player).

Pretty appealing.

This is why I like the idea of AB and JJ for Ibaka.
JJ can be let go next off season when they have to sign KD for $22-25  million. Plus AB is exactly what they need at SG.
