they're kicking around the idea of Brooke Lopez for D-Lee, Smart, and Dal 16 or Bos 16.

They're having quite a discussion about it actually.

Please tell me that this would never happen. I need to be able to sleep at night.
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

At least we still get their pick, which should presumably get better without Lopez there.

But, yeah, I think I would rather go for Love...or anyone else more likely to stay healthy.

I believe Danny Ainge would not move Smart for anyone.

I'd feel so bad for Smart in that situation. Granted, having Smart + RHJ on the perimeter would be the beginnings of one hell of a defense for them.

How desperate for young talent do you think Brooklyn is? I'm not giving them Smart in any scenario, but do you think any kind of package of Lee, Sully/KO, Rozier, Young, Hunter, and Mickey and a non-Brooklyn pick (not all of these guys but some kind of package with some/most of them) would do it for them for Lopez?

I mean, I'm sure they could find a better deal with at least one better prospect/player elsewhere, but this might be one type of scenario where a quality for quantity trade might make sense for them. Most of those young guys still have significant upside, and if developed correctly they could eventually form a nice core around some higher-ceiling players or stars.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
never happening. Smart isn't being traded unless a top 10 player is coming back. I doubt Ainge would trade Smart even for Love.

Smart is the future of this franchise- he's the locker room leader, the defensive leader, and he's the guy that's going to bring his fellow classmates to Boston as free agents because he's a leader with energy.

I would bet my house and car that this never happens- especially for an injury prone mediocre big man like Lopez.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Yeah this is a nonstarter. Even if we wanted an oafish center who doesn't play defense, we probably don't want one with chronic foot problems who makes $20M/yr over the next two seasons.

It's also worth mentioning that per36 stats basically show that Zeller is a Lopez clone:

We'd have to be careful with a deal like this, because Brooklyn could just reroute Lee and the two picks for Dwight Howard and then move Joe Johnson for a couple overpaid vets

If you could promise me that Lopez's foot wouldn't crumble into dust, I'd consider it.

No way. Smart has the potential to be a future all star.

López is just a top 40 or 50 player at best.
