Just thought I'd put this one out there and see what others thought. I'm not totally sure I would do this trade. But it should does seem like Horford and Howard would make a great pair.

Now we wouldn't be giving up JUST the Nets pick in the deal I've drawn up. Here's what I propose:

Boston Trades: 2016 Nets 1st, 2016 C's 1st, Amir Johnson, David Lee, James Young and Tyler Zeller
Boston Receives: Al Horford, Dwight Howard

Atlanta Trades: Al Horford, Jeff Teague
Atlanta Receives: 2016 Nets 1st, Amir Johnson, James Young

Houston Trades: Dwight Howard
Houston Receives: Jeff Teague, 2016 Celtics 1st, David Lee, Tyler Zeller

I think consensus says you don't give up the Nets pick for one of these players. But would you give it up for both?

Here is what are team would look like going into the playoffs:

Thomas / Smart
Bradley / Turner
Crowder / Jerebko
Horford / Olynyk
Howard / Sullinger

That is quite the 10 man rotation.

Danny Ainge doesn't want to mortgage the future with a win-now trade. But this seems like a wonderful way to consolidate some assets and trim the fat off the roster.

And can you really say we're mortgaging the future when we'll still have the maverick's pick and two more (likely lottery) Nets picks coming down the road?

This could be the one win-now trade that makes sense.

Yeah I wasn't sure exactly what to offer them. Honestly I'd let them have their pick of who they like best from the Young, Rozier, Hunter bundle. I also thought about giving them Sullinger. Which we could probably get away with doing, but erred against.

The only way I'd trade that pick is if it got us a star under contract for multiple years... or an elite prospect like Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor, or D'Angelo Russell that might be better than what the pick is going to get us in the draft.

if we could keep AB,Crowder,Smart,IT,KO,Brk 16, One of Brk 17 OR 18

I think I would do it

Bos sends: Lee, Sully, Dallas 1s1, Bos 2016
At sends   : Horford

Bos sends : Amir,Zeller, Jerebko ,Hunter, Brk 2017 or 18, a few 2nds
Hou sends : Howard

IT                /  Smart
AB               /  Young
jae               / Turner
Horford        /Mickey
Howard        / KO

I would even add the c's 2018 pick to get the howard deal done

That team can win the east this year .....

How can we "trim the fat off the roster" if we're keeping Sully?  ;D

Between Howard's injuries and horford's peaking play
I don't see any reason why they make us any significantly better

so Horford and Howard  wouldn't make us better by replacing Sully and Amir in the starting lineup? right.............................

I don't see that winning a title and I prefer the chance at a top 2 pick that could lead to winning a title in 3 years.  I stay the course and only trade Sully/Lee/JJ/Amir/Young/maybe Rozier along with non Memphis and BK picks.  The top of this draft is great, which the Celts have a very good  shot at, and the next year's draft looks loaded.

I am really against the team getting guys over 26 unless they consolidate later picks in this draft.  The Warriors aren't going away and LeBron isn't done.  The Celtics are primed to be the next great team after these are done with just a little luck.  The wrong moves and the team is a perennial 1 playoff series winner.

I'd love to have both H and H, even as rentals, because they give us a chance to contend this year. It would take some time to integrate them both, but we'd be a real tough out in the playoffs.

That being said, if we can't get one of them without a Brooklyn pick, I pass.

Heck yes.  You do anything possible to get Horford or Howard, without breaking up our core (IT, Smart, Bradley, Turner, Crowder).

I don't care when their contracts end or if they'll walk.  You don't pass up a chance at a championship.

Horford or Howard with those guys listed above would have at the least a decent chance of winning the championship (with ~3 of Johnson/Sully/KO/Zeller/Lee/Jerebko left over).  Both?  Are you kidding me?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I don't want 3 months rentals.  I remember Joe Johnson too well.

He is talking about the RR and Delk for JJ and fillers trade. RR bolted in offseason.
