Would people have been talking about trading Bird, Mchale, Parish, Ainge and DJ all the time? What would be people have talked about?

Of course.

There'd also be people convinced that Sam Vincent was the second coming of Jesus Christ and that the Celtics should trade the '86 Sonics pick for Benoit Benjamin.

I'm somewhat older but mainly remember the end.  It would have been interesting how the whole Bill Walton thing came together.  I remember people not liking Greg Kite that much but he was a late round pick and a roleplayer. I don't know what people expected. He did kind of suck though. There wasn't a whole lot not to like about those teams. Greg Kite was basically it.

Late 80s. Definitely.

1983 would've been a banner summer for "blow it up" threads.

It would have been great.  Hyper-analysis of Larry Bird's "character issues", endless debate over the Rambis takedown, fan outrage over trading Joe Barry-Carroll for the "underachieving" Robert Parish...

And then the trade ideas.  "Who says no?: Joe Kleine and a future pick for Magic Johnson"

Dennis Johnson is a cancer.  Why are they bringing him in?  He's going to destroy team chemistry!

Hyper-analysis of Larry Bird's "character issues"

I think you mean "Larry Steele 2.0".

We need to trade that bum so we can go full tank for Mel Turpin.

They would complain about how short Larry Bird's arms are.

As for the question, Magic's extra curricular activities would have been all over TMZ.  Jordan probably wouldn't have developed quite as much of a gambling addiction, since he wouldn't be able to go anywhere.  Bird's relationship with his daughter would be everywhere.  There would be video of the Len Bias party.

The criticism that James gets would have been levied on all of the stars of that period as well, in addition to the events above.

Numerous threads on what a great job the Clippers are doing in stockpiling talent (Manning, Benjamin, etc.). Sterling and Baylor are geniuses. The Clippers are the future of the NBA. The Clippers have more assets than the Celtics.

Magic Johnson would be labelled an entitled crybaby
Posters would say that somebody should flatten Bill Laimbeer......
Celticsblog would have a WWF thread about Andre, Hulkamania, Ultimate Warrior...
Earl Strom would get the Joey Crawford treatment

Agree on Magic and Bird - especially Bird would have a hard time shaking the reputation as a neglectful father - but nearly all casinos do not allow video or photography, and have private high-roller areas if needed.  And private card or golf games can be tightly controlled too.  Jordan could still get away 90+% of the gambling he did back then.

Don't forget the Team of the 90s, YOUR Cleveland Cavaliers!  Price, Daughtery, John Williams, Ehlo AND Ron Harper?  3-4 rings easy.

...unrelated to both, I'd've loved to see what the mememakers of the world could do with Michael Cage's Jheri Curl.
