hey now....

i liked Sanders game -- most did, I guess. personally, he always seemed to be a really bright but troubled guy. while it's probably not the most likely scenario, could the time away have helped sanders prioritize things appropriately? find some form of anger management, and temper his weed usage to mere average NBA levels?

i'm actually very interested to see how this plays out. the Cs locker room might be one of the few in the NBA that's built the right way for a guy like Sanders.

I hate to judge a book by its cover, but... tread lightly.

I love Sanders' game, but....

The guy walked away from A LOT of $$$.

I guess that could be looked upon admirably...or....like someone who makes bad choices after bad choices.

Still love to try him out on a make-good contract. I like him better than Whiteside in terms of value.

EDIT: After reading the article, it sounds like he "has a plan" that's well thought out. I wish him luck.

Yeah, Ferrari, not Lambo.  I'm very suspicious.

I have no interest.  I don't think he will ever be a stable member of a team.  He's still more concerned with things other than basketball.  No thanks.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Sanders is someone I could see us going after with a team option, something akin to Javale McGee, and I honestly think we have a good chance.

Stevens is a well liked and respected coach, and players want to play with IT and Crowder/Smart, which is funny, because a year ago, no one even thought the Celtics would even the 3rd seed, let alone in one of the best positions in the East with assets and young players to boot.

I don't see a single statement from him indicating any dedication to actually coming back. More like saying one day maybe if the situation is perfect and I feel like it and my music career is doing ok, which to me means if his music career tanks and he can't grab money any other way, he will keep the NBA option open.

Either way, that interview does not instil any confidence in teams that he has any dedication to returning to his level of competition.

Look at it this way:  the dude already made away with 35 million, plus probably some endorsement money.

He was 26, in the prime of his life, with more money than he knew what to do with.

He probably wants time to enjoy it now, rather than when he's in his mid-thirties.

He's still getting paid ~2.2 million a year, to sit around his house and smoke herb (which apparently he couldn't do as much as he wanted to in the NBA).

No need to be greedy and go for all the money he can make, especially if he doesn't want/need to support a large entourage (which is pretty stupid when you think about it).

Enjoy life now because it's short.  If he wants, he can always come back and make another 35 million, or more depending on how long he waits (assuming he doesn't let himself completely go in the meantime).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Link provides a little more depth and info on the Sanders situation. Good watch for anyone hasn't seen it.

Yeah, if for some reason he doesn't stick in the NBA, you bet we'll see him overseas.
