Gallinari and Faried for Griffin is a joke of a trade for the Clippers.  Griffin is an all NBA player.  The other two are average players.  Gallinari is ok, Farried is a very athletic garbage man.

They're both above-average (Gallo more than Faried), but definitely not in Griffin's league.  That's why I said as a starting point, plus Denver taking on Stephenson's bad contract.  There'd probably have to be more in it for the Clips than that, though.
Interesting. Does Denver have enough for the Clips to unload Griffin and Stephenson? Any expiring contracts? Maybe they are trying to clear up cap to make a play for Durant.

I don't know about options and the like, but I believe Hickson, Foye, and Miller are all expiring for Denver.  That's about $9.5 million, which isn't a ton in the new cap enviroment, but it could help.  Don't know who the Clips would want to salary dump outside of Stephenson, though.  Maybe Pierce so he can be bought out and come back home  ;D
TP for researching that. I think this is probably the best angle I heard on this. Get a decent piece like Faried but the real move is to clear space for Durant.

Trade machine says Faried, Gallo, Barton for Griffin and Stephenson works

If we really wanted to the Celtics could probably outbid both Denver and Philly fairly easily.

Griffin is going nowhere though.

Celtics Receive: Griffin
Nuggets Receive: 18 Brooklyn pick, 16 Celtic pick, Lee, Crawford
Clippers Receive: Gallo, Bradley, Sully, Jerebko, 16 Dallas pick, 17 right to swap with Brooklyn
The Celtics can't trade consecutive #1 picks (16 and 17).

"Right to swap" is not something you can trade.

Denver would take Griffin before taking the picks.

Philly has almost nothing to offer for Griffin. The Clippers aren't rebuilding. They need contributors.

Perhaps if you offered a package including Crowder, Olynyk, Amir, and Smart.  That would cover the bases for the Clips.  You know Doc isn't going to give much of a crap about getting draft picks or younger players.

If we keep a 2016 pick (any of them, not just ours), then we can trade our 2017 pick

Since he leaves the Celtics with the 2016 Nets 1st and the Celtics 2018 1st, then the 2017 Celtics 1st with swap rights is something you can trade. As long as the Celtics have a single 1st remaining in each of 2016 and 2018, the 2017 1st is tradeable.

Yeah if you put up hypothetical bids of

Manimal + Gallo + Denver's own pick this year

v.

Crowder + Smart + Brookyln pick

I'm pretty sure I know which one LA would prefer.

Imagine the Celts offered Smart, Crowder, Olynyk, Amir to the Clips for Blake.

Paul - Redick - Crowder - Olynyk - Deandre

With Smart, Crawford, Wes, and Amir off the bench.

That team would be fun.

On the other hand, the Celts would have Thomas, Bradley, Blake, a bunch of picks .... and what?  Sullinger, Zeller, Turner, Jerebko?  Ainge would have to get creative in the off-season to refill some holes fast.

But you'd have two All-Stars in Isaiah and Blake to attract free agents with Brad Stevens, and you'd keep all the Brooklyn picks.

That could be a really great starting point.

LA has been begging for players like Crowder/Olynyk for years now. If they were at all interested in trading Griffin it would be a perfect fit.

You'd think so.

Trading away Smart, Crowder and Olynyk in one move would be tough.  That's pretty much the backbone of your young core out the window.

But this is why you hoard all the draft picks and assets, so you can overload another team with quality pieces and then have plenty of rookie contract guys, picks, and cap space left over to rebuild your supporting cast once you've added the star.

We could offer the right to swap out a pick with the product of the Brk/Cs swap

We can trade consecutive picks as long as we retain a first round pick one of the two years, it does not have to be our own pick.

So just keep a single first rounder in 16 or 17 and we can send any combo of picks over.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It's posturing from the Nuggets in all likelihood.

In what world does Doc want Faried next to DeAndre ? What a nightmare for spacing.

If any kind of deal is happening it's Barton, Mudiay and Gallo for Griffin.
That is a fair price. Faried is an average starting PF who's reached his ceiling.

That could be a really great starting point.

I think you'd keep one of Crowder and Smart (most likely Smart as the Clippers need Crowder now) otherwise it's too much for a guy with one season left on his deal.
