This works on realgm.com trade checker:

We would need to take on Splitter's BAD contract that runs thru next year at $8.3 million and give up our first rounder this year and the Dallas first rounder.

Thoughts??

If you think you can resign Horford, you absolutely do this.  Splitter's contract isn't that bad.

You'd have to do something else up front, because you'd now have Horford/Johnson/Sullinger/olynyk/Jerebko with Zeller/Splitter/Mickey deep on the bench.

Horford as an FA scares me...He's also only a 15 and 7 guys and has kind of stepped off a bit from his All Star superstar status.

Still like him and his fit. But thats a lot to give up for a declining FA.

Plus his health... huge concern. I see him as too risky in the end.

Totally agree.  If this happens, we would have to trades one to two bigs and quick!!!

I personally would NOT say that having a 20.00 PER is declining:-)

Because I think we would get his Bird Right's by trading for him.  You act like Horford is just going to sign with us because we are Boston.  That has not happened in a LONG time!!!!  Free agency is NOT how we tend to land stars!!  I wish that trend was a reality however:-))

Getting Horford in Boston for a half season increases our chances of signing him. If giving up a first and Young increases our chances at signing Horford, I'm all in.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't care about his Bird Rights because I wouldn't offer him a 5 year deal.  Just how much are you willing to re-sign him for?

But this way you get him for a half season, which I think really makes us at least ECF contenders.  And really it's giving up very little.

saw on another forum the idea of going after Horford + Teague and then flipping Teague + picks for Gordon Hayward.

I'm not sure how much it really increases our chances of signing Horford.   I agree with ssspence... if Horford is willing to re-sign here, we might as well just grab him in free agency.

I'm on board with trading for Horford now, but the price shouldn't be too high considering the risk.

Compared to 17 and 10 and 19 and 9 2 and 3 years ago? He's going to be 30 and asking for a max deal....I like him, but is he that type of superstar?

Now the rumors of the day of Teague and Horford and then flipping Teague for Hayward is something I can get on board with however.
