Nets starting to look a little better than at the beginning of the season, and there are some pretty weak teams (Lakers and 76ers) that look for poised for the top spots. Poeltl obviously doesn't have the upside as say Simmons or Skal, but he fits a HUGE position of need and looks like a really good consolation prize. If you were guaranteed Poeltl right now for the nets pick, would you take it?
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

No way. High hopes for the pick right now. We could get sabonis later on. We need a dynamic three that can score. Bottom line Danny.

No chance. I think the Nets have differentiated themselves from Philly and LA, but that's still a lock for a top 5 pick IMO.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

what for. We are already planning to get rid of a similar player in Zeller

I really hope we don't draft this kid.  Very little skill level.  Just ok wingspan for size.   In the nba won't stand out

never in a million years. Poeltl was projected a late first last draft.

As what you've said a nice consolation prize, but I think all of us would agree that we do have high hopes for the Brooklyn pick, should be in the top 5. With how the things our going right now, we could have 4 1st round picks on next years draft and given his fit on our system and defensive potential, I'd be willing to trade 2 of our firsts to grab him late in the lottery. He's quite underrated IMO.

Not with the Nets pick. If we can somehow manage to trade our pick and the Dallas pick this year (may even be out of the lottery the way they're playing) to move up to the 7-10 range, that's when I would definitely take Poeltl, but with the Nets pick, I do whatever I can to nab a scorer, a guy with killer mentality, Someone to really lead and be the face of the franchise (aka simmons, brown, ingram, lab, maybe murray).
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

If he's picked 4th or 5th overall, it wouldn't surprise me.  Kid can play

Ingram or bust.  The kid can play, has grit, has handles, and oh yea he's like 6,9 with a 7' wing span.  He would be a great developmental piece moving forward.  No doubt we could package some picks and players to fill out the roster better come draft day.

Yup.

I love Ingram.

People are concerned about Kevin Durant injury similarities, (although if your player can become KD, lol, then what's the issue?) and worries whether or not Ingram will be able to play in an NBA. But he just turned 18 on September, so he plenty of time to grow out the rest of his frame, which is pretty broad.

I have no doubt in my mind, Ingram is going to be a special player in this league. Just like KD, they both have crazy different body types in the NBA, and eventually scouts are going to be looking for players like those. Bruno Caboclo, who could also be a surprise sleeper in a few years, although Ingram already looks far more polished.

If our pick falls in the top five, which I believe it will, we draft Ingram. We'll just need a really good big man that can anchor an defense.

Ingram also can jump over the backboard...

Ingram's athleticism is crazy! The only concern I have is whether he'll turn out to be a good scorer in the NBA. His performances for Duke so far has been subpar to say the least :-\ Hope he turns it around though..

Poeltl will likely be a mid to late lottery pick along with a large group of other big men. This draft looks very deep with Big 4s and centers. This is no means a complete list but players like Ellenson, Zimmerman and Bryant will all be going around the same time. I have personally been really high on Poeltl since first watching him on TV last year. I am particularly intrigued by his ability to move and switch on D at his size. He could very well develop into a solid defensive anchor type C in the NBA but I have higher hopes for the nets pick.

Its very early and I haven't seen everyone player but Im predicting the top 5 picks to be

1. Simmons
2. Bender
3. Ingram
4. Labissier
5. Brown

I'm hoping the Cs land in that top 5 group with the Nets pick. After that its clear DA will need to make some moves with the large number of picks. If this means trading up to target another lottery player Poeltl would be a great target. However I am more inclined to think DA will look to turn the Cs and Mavs pick into a rotation worthy young(ish) vet to try to keep this teams winning momentum moving from season to season.

Based on what?   Duke benching him?   He is silky smooth and athletic but that has not translated in a good NCAA play.  He has looked good against bad teams and played poorly against good ones.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3913176/brandon-ingram

Scored well against Yale and Bryant, vanished against UK and Georgetown.

Here are Durant's college stats, big difference.

http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/kevin-durant-1.html

But the Durant comparison is beyond silly, I was tempted to say things a whole lot meaning but it is Thanksgiving.  But Durant could play right away and he was not a project.  This is a great example of how we as a society compare things that really are not that similar.  I get it is how we understand things and we do it all the time, but in this case, as in many others, it is a fallacy.

His shooting has a ways to go, the only thing he has in common with Durant right now is he is skinny and tall.  He has potential, but he has to work on his shot and body and has a long ways to go.
