What would you do?

Assume the top 4 players available are:

Simmons
Skal
Bender
Ingram

No.  Take Simmons & not think twice about it.  (Assuming he comes out)

Not to mention that the Celtics already have their hands full with draft picks & potential draft picks.

Quality over quantity here.

I agree with Donoghus.  Take the consensus #1 guy.   Really seems like that'll be Simmons.  Have we seen an open-floor attacker and passer like him since LeBron?  I'm excited to see more of him.

Example: Would you rather have Wiggins, or Jabari and Exum?   I'd take Wiggins every time.

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

+1 on that, if Simmons is available, take him without second though

Yes, I would do any and all of the 1 for 2 trades.  Drafting is a crap shoot so why not have 2 roles of the dice?

In reality, it would probably need to be something like #1 plus #10 (say from Dallas) for #2 and #4.  I would still definitely do this but I can't imagine Philly would if they ended up with those two picks.

kind of impossible to answer right now as we don't know the consensus #1.

This may turn into the kind of draft where such a trade is possible.  But only if
1. Boston has the #1 and
2. Philly gets LA pick (I doubt they will).

Agree with other that if Simmons puts distance between himself and Skal then
definitely not.

Yes, I would.  As stated previously, more rolls of the dice.

Jury is still out, isn't it?

Couldn't Jabari, Exum, or even both of them be better than Wiggins in the future?

Don't think Philly would do that type of deal. Their lower of the two picks, Embid, and Noel for #2 would be more their type of deal. I don't think it's good to trade top 3 overall picks unless you get a current NBA all star player.

Could they be?  Yes.

Would I feel better about my chances with Jabari and Exum versus Wiggins?  No, not at all.

Of course, you could use a counter example like Anthony Bennett versus Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller.

The lesson for me is that if there is a consensus #1 guy, you take that guy.  Don't trade the pick.

In a strong draft, there's a solid chance that there will be two guys at #2 and #4 who would be worth more than the #1 pick alone (e.g. Derrick Favors and Demarcus Cousins versus John Wall in 2010), but is your team likely to take those two guys, or will you end up with Evan Turner and Wesley Johnson?

Good point.

I think the answer really depends on whether there is a consensus #1.  If you're sitting on the #1 pick and you know that the person offering #2 and #4 wants to take the guy who's second on your board (e.g. Oden versus Durant in 07), then the trade makes a lot of sense.
