I live in China and I realize that no one here cares about CBA (chinese pro) ball. The CBA teams are in random cities, they get 2 foreign players and one taiwan player, but basketball fans here like nba and the time difference makes it hard.

The NBA clearly wants to get more into china. I live in a city bigger than new york and we don't have a team. If the NBA and CBA could work out a deal it could e great for everyone and great for basketball in china.

Match up all the existing D league teams with one nba team. match up all the CBA teams with one team. Add teams to all the big cities in china that dont have them. Maybe fill in some team in Europe. They could keep some rules like the team has to have so many chinese guys and maybe even so many guys from that  city/province.

obviously there are travel problems and fairness problems (how far away your minor league team is) but maybe something could be worked out? It would be a coup for the NBA in china.

Think it only works partially if teams completely get rid of the Dleague and add a 3rd round to the draft. Not sure about doing a strickly China league though too much red tape, no pun intended. Still teams can instead have a developing player (player under 25 years old) become World Basketball Tour (WBT) player for one year assignments. WBT players will play as mercenaries for any teams they like outside the NBA. Yet are considered NBA players though and thus have NBA contract years/rights start immediately no matter if they are playing in the NBA. The players can not be called up in a WBT assigned year to play for an NBA team but can work out and practice with their NBA team. This is marketing the NBA because they are indeed NBA players. It may open foreign teams long term basketball recruitment, and does still protect players rights as they can finally play out rookie contracts with any team as they develop. It should improve foreign leagues talent pool as well since the NBA is doing ground work on scouting and talent projection on these players. CBA may then just add that two WBT players on the roster are allowed in addition to the current stipulations.
