So Mavs starters for opening night should be...

Williams (minutes restriction)
Mathews (minutes restriction)
Evans
Dirk
Zaza

Suns just a poorly thought out team .  Weird creation.

Mavs got lots of losses coming

It's helpful for them to win some games as well we need them outside of the top 7. The Nets, well let's just hope they lose every game imaginable.

pick#8 will do me just fine.

Brooklyn#5 + Dallas#8 could be serious building blocks while we wait to trade for a star.

I definitely would not complain about that, though I think a few things going in our favor could make the Nets a top-3 contender.

Yeah would be *unfortunate*for Lopez or Johnson to miss 40+ games.
I wouldn't wish any injury on anyone except Dwayne Wade. That being said, I wouldn't complain if Lopez went down for an extended period and Bargs had to step up and take his place...

Hey, it doesn't have to be an injury. How about this scenario:

On the way home from the game, Lopez meets his bashert on the subway. They hit it off and decide that they want to run off and be goat farmers, living happily forever.

I'm not going to overreact to 1 game, but the fact that Matthews did play last night and seemed reasonably effective is a good sign for them. I think it is also easy to forget that Carlisle is a really good coach and with a group of veterans with no reason to shut it down, I think they could end up competing for the playoffs (which I guess I was leaning away from during the offseason)

Definitely and it's important that they win a couple early on. If they lose a ton early in the season, there's always the chance they tank and the pick rolls over to the next year. That wouldn't be the worst thing, but if we want a good return on the pick this year, they've got to win enough to keep them in the hunt for the 8th spot for a while before it all unravels, which it will because there's no way that team makes the playoffs in the West.

Dallas's problem is so much the talent as much as the age and injury history on their team. by mid year, they are probably going to break down and just be completely gassed by late February barring any in season moves. I can see them being anywhere from a 10-20 pick in the draft depending on injuries and if they sqeak into the playoffs.

Here at the team records over the last 10 years of the teams that picked at no 8 in the draft

2015. 32-50
2014. 28-54 * 9th worst record won the lottery
2013. 29-53
2012. 23-43* 66 game season
2011. 30-52
2010. 29-53
2009. 32-50
2008. 26-56 * 9th worst record won the lottery
2007. 33-49
2006. 34-48

So in hopes that the Celtics do get a pick in the 8 to 10 range , you would think that it best that the Mavs start out responsibly strong so if they do decide to tank later on in the season they have too many wins to drop into that the 7th spot or below.

TP for good research.

I think they win 35-40 this year, so that would likely put them in the 10-14 range, everything else considered. I'm good with that.

I think that's a generous win total or them.  I'm thinking 30-32 if that much.  The West is tough and they're the walking wounded this season.

30-32 still puts them solidly in the #8 range based on previous results.

From your lips...

With our draft luck, they'll be #8, only to end up having the ping-pong ball bounce their way.

I'm amazed Wes made it back so quickly.  Anyone catch the Phoenix game?
