He`ll be a superstart if his moves produce something (ex. conference final)
Till then he is doing a good job trying to be a superstart

Danny has not found a dance partner to set off fireworks yet, but he sure has nailed recent small and medium deals.  Also he has not made any mistakes in terms of risking long term cap space and flexibility.  What more could we ask for ?  In DA and CBS we trust.

Danny has done a fantastic job with the peripheral stuff -- coach, role players, mid to late 1st round picks.

GMs are ultimately judged on their ability to bring together star players and assemble a team capable of winning a championship.

Ainge has done that before.  Still remains to be seen how and when he'll do that with this rebuild.

What Ainge has been is patient and that patience has served him well.

It was obvious to almost everyone (beyond the Nets and a few holdouts on this board) that after Rondo's injury the Celtics window had totally closed. He fleeced the Nets in a deal that would pay dividends on a long-term basis. Once that decision was made and he knew the plan was going to be a long-term one, every other decision he's made has also been on that basis.

Thus he held on to Rondo until after the injury healed to try to build his value. He got all of what he needed out of Jeff Green before sending him away. He swung for the fences a couple of times but didn't quite have the power to pull off the deal. So he's acquired picks and young players to have as many assets as possible and as many shots as possible at lucking into a future star. He's held to that vision and continues to do so.

At some point he'll have to cash those chips in. But he's been wonderfully patient thus far.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Trying to remember another GM who pulled together a team like ours in 2007-2008 that won in their first year.

Can't think of one. Maybe one of the doubters can help me. 42 game improvement. Is that still the number 1 turnaround? Anyone?
