Didn't see it posted yet but has implications for us.

Achilles injury keeping Matthews out until around Christmas. Can only be good for our pick :)

Yeah, I mean, it was fairly obvious when he tore his achilles that not only would he miss the majority of this season, but he would also be a shell of his former self when he returns, at least until the following season at best for the Mavs. It was crazy to take him on at that money. I think they did so to attract LMA and it backfired.

Justin Anderson is going to get some serious minutes as a rookie in Dallas. Good thing for the Mavs that he's got very good basketball IQ for a rookie.

Bummer. I like Wes a lot as a player.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

There must be something in the contract regarding the injury.  Can't imagine any team signing a hurt rehabbing player without some protection.

Doubt there is.  I think Cuban is banking that Matthews can recover fully by next year, when the cap spikes more.  And if he doesn't, then using the probable amnesty in the new CBA the following year.

And in h2h I am greedily handling the first rounder I got for Wes Matthews, while also giving Justin Anderson a pep talk, whom I traded up for.

Assuming he's back by Christmas, that would be 29 games missed by Wes.

Also of note, Carlisle said Parsons may not be ready by the opener either as he too is coming off surgery.

Tough offseason for the Mavs. I have always been a fan of Dirk and along with the Spurs the Mavs have always been a team I love to root for...

But Dirk now has a bunch of projects alongside of him and I'm not sure that they are going to work out. Deron, McGee, an injured Wes, no Monta Ellis. I'd hate to see Dirk go out without another playoff run at least.

There's probably insurance on the contract, but that doesn't help with any cap hits.

As for Parsons...

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/13759917/chandler-parsons-dallas-mavericks-recovering-minor-hybrid-microfracture-surgery-right-knee

Quote
The procedure that Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons had on his right knee on May 1 was a "minor hybrid" microfracture operation, according to sources.

The Mavs and Parsons have been vague about the details of the operation, which was announced simply as an "arthroscopic surgery to address a cartilage injury in his right knee."

Sources told ESPN.com that the operation, which was performed by team physician T.O. Souryal, included a bone marrow transplant from Parsons' right hip to help regenerate the cartilage damage from late last season that caused him to miss all but one game of the playoffs.

The location of the cartilage damage was in the "best possible spot," a source said, because it is in a non-weight-bearing area of the knee. That was the primary reason that a traditional microfracture surgery, which would require a longer recovery period, was not necessary.

The state of the Mavs looks pretty bleak and this comment by Carlisle doesn't make it better.

Carlisle on 6-9/200 lb Jeremy Evans "I think he can play a little (center) for us."

If Dallas comes out looking really bad, they might throw in the towel early and make sure they get worse than the 8th pick. I think Nowitzki wanting to win more before he retires and Carisle's competetiveness stand in opposition to that but with so many injuries, that's definitely on the table.

Not necessarily bad for the C's because the pick just rolls over and there's no guarentee they'd be any better the following season but it's something to keep in mind.

Dallas coach actually came out and said  THIS STATEMENT IS FALSE AND HE NEVER SAID  THAT. I will post the source IF I find it
