Why not sign this man to a training camp contract?  He tore the FIBA tournament up!!!

I know he is 30, but how many minutes are really on his legs?

could you provide more info on this guy and why he is worth looking at? the stats i saw for him shout "3rd string big man" and that is something the celtics have in abundance.

does he have any particular skill that doesnt show up in stats?

I am trying to find his FIBA tourney averages.  He had 16 points and 19 rebounds vs. Canada (for Mexico) in the third place game.  He has been tearing up the FIBA tournament.

Could someone please provide his FIBA averages?  I would be most grateful!!!

Evidently averaged about 7.4 points and 5 rebounds for Real Madrid last year and .6 blocks in about 18.7 minutes.

Unfortunately, it looks like he is signed with Real Madrid through this year:-(((

Pretty skilled player. Good back to basket game and nice touch around the basket. He actually had his way with Team USA last year. Remember Cousins being visibly frustrated. Not a great athlete though

Nice find Eddie20!!!  I wonder what it would take to buy him out of his contract with Real Madrid?  Or if that would even be possible.

just to keep the discussion moving along. let us assume the celtics get ayon from RM. what then? whom does ayon beat out for position of pf/c on the celtics?

does he beat out lee for playing time? johnson? sully? olly? zelly? because unless he beats out at least 3 of these guys, ayon isnt likely to log many minutes, or so it seems to me.

Agree to a point.  I see Ayon as a center, more than as a PF.  Our only true center is Zeller, with Amir yet to prove he is a center.  We definitely have an overload at PF however, and that needs to be dealt with.  Who would have ever thought that we would have such an overload of PF's and C's.  I would prefer more centers than PF's personally.

We've got too many bigs fighting for rotation minutes as it is.

This team needs wings that can shoot an open three, defend, and get to the line.  Big men are not a need.

Because he already played in the NBA, in his physical prime, no less -- and was decidedly unremarkable.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Ayon isn't that good...

I would surely take KO, Johnson, Sullinger, Jerebko, and even Perry Jones over him... There is no point in offering him a training camp position if there is absolutely no potential nor roster space or minutes to give him.

There was mutual interest between him with the Spurs, so I guess its a matter of context. The Spurs were looking for someone that could fit into their system, and could be had for affordability. Whereas, if we were to pick him up, it would only take up the minutes other players ahead of him surely deserve.
