Wow, very impressive to see him contribute that sum of money. Even for LeBron, $42 Million is an enormous sum. Good to see him get others through college even though he didn't go that route.

Wow, if this is true, he rockets waaaaaayyyy ahead of all other NBA players imo as a role model and leader. A true selfless, classy action, put to excellent use to help a major weak point in his home town, local education, investing in the future of his city and our county. Something you would hope people like our government leaders such as Obama would do.

When you look at how much he has made, it's like he just tithed. More than tithed when you consider how much taxes he has paid. Well maybe he won't have taxes this year.

Talk about giving back.

That's great stuff from LeBron James. We may hate him on the court, but he's an awesome human being.

Respect. Does anyone have statistics on what % of income other basketball players give? I feel as though it isn't as common as it should be.

Depends how you define "give". Guys like Antoine Walker and Scottie Pippen gave almost 100% of it away for example.

There are lots of things to legitimately dislike about Lebron. This...isn't one of them. This is pretty fantastic, and I hope he keeps this stuff up. I'm glad to hate the guy on the court, but applaud him off of it.

This made the rounds in Cleveland a couple of days ago.  It is pretty common for James.  He does a lot of good.  I mean even the Decision raised a couple of million for charity (which no one ever remembers).

I don't think the decision is a popular topic in Cleveland. Maybe not even in Akron

It is not, I was just pointing out that James has pretty consistently given back.

It must be partially tax related.

I can still hate on LeBron the player but he seems to be an amazing human being.

It is a sponsorship with the University of Akron, so James' foundation probably isn't fronting the whole bill and the 1100 kids are in the 7th grade and have to meet a number of requirements to qualify (though the requirements aren't anything crazy), so it won't end up being anywhere near 42 million, it just could be in theory.

If I understand this correctly it's not exactly aimed at 1100 17 year olds this year, right?

It's going to have some time to be safely invested and grow and be ready in a couple years, right? Or doled out bit by bit?
