Interesting to see what "draft considerations" turns into.

Tough, but he's gotta know he's not about to be a real part of a decent team until his current contract is up.

Gerald Wallace got a lot of money from his current contract, but he should be a cautionary tale to some players on decline -- know what you're getting into when you sign a big money, long term contract that is likely to last longer than your game.

Wonder if Crash regrets signing that massive contract? Bet he'd still be able carve out a decent role for himself if his deal was something a contender could afford.

Now it's been so long since hes played meaningful minutes his next big role will probably have to be in China.

Why do the Warriors want Jason Thompson?

Doesn't he have 2-3 years left on his contract?

Tax saving move this year at the very least.

And it's team option next year.

Probably saves them $$.  He makes $4 million per year less than GW.  He's got 2 years left.  He can also still play a little, gives them depth at the 5.

Saves them 10 million if you include tax savings.

Not a huge fan of the trade for Philly TBH. Swap rights for OKC picks with GS is a meh return for taking money and giving the better player.

Not quite.  It's $2.65 million guaranteed next year.

You cleared $2.65 million off the books for next year.  Maybe Hinkie will begin to make his moves in 2016.

We're not going to be FA players next year barring something crazy. Does free up some space though.

Still, would rather have just had Thompson.

That would make sense to me. He's got all of these young guys attached to the team, he's going to have to start filling out the roster with real NBA players eventually. I think this was the last summer he sits out entirely.

Not to restart this whole futile argument, but Thompson is a quality back-up big in the prime of his career with two years to go on a very reasonable contract.  If Philly tries to go out next year and get a replacement-level player, it might cost them twice as much at minimum.

This trade makes no sense for Philly short-term or long-term unless you totally buy into the Hinkie plan.

Between Noel, Okafor, Sims, Landry, and Aldemir (not to mention Covington at the 4 in small-ball lineups), Thompson wouldn't have gotten many minutes, anyway.
