What do you think of this player comparison...Defensively he is much better then Deron ever was but as he develops his game offensively I think that he is looking alot like Deron Williams

Nowhere near his game.. Deron is quicker, arguably next to CP3 at the time, had the better crossover, but slightly less handles than CP3.

If Smart turns into anything like D-Will, I'll be happy. Minus the knee injuries of course.

I don't agree with this comp, but Deron is an example of a guy who shot for a low % at the rim early in his career but improved.

There is a very good chance that Marcus Smart is going to be the next Marcus Smart.
Bulldog on defense.  Bulldog on offense-with improved handle and shooting once he finishes watching the Pistol Pete Maravich Instructional Basketball Videos I sent him. :o

No. What?

Smart actually plays hard.

Smart is closer go a Gary Payton or a more skilled version of Tony Allen

Of note, Williams and CP3 were drafted the same year, one after the other.

That aside, has a whole lot to work on before he can be called the next anything.  We need to figure out whether he is a PG or a SG because at the moment, he doesn't do either very well.

I see him more as an undersized small forward.

I've seen a little d will in smart as well. It is something about both of them having a slow fluidity to their movements

Next Chauncey Billups is probably a more plausible scenario, though still very optimistic.

This is part of it, if you're only using "Deron Williams" as the guy taking New Jersey's money for the last five years or so.

I get the comparison, physically. Both are big, stout, pg's.

But like everyone else is saying, they're games are pretty different from one another.

I still say his best comp is a less athletic, better-shooting DWade. That doesn't mean he'll end up nearly as good as Wade in his prime, but I do see a lot of similarities in their game.

He'll never have DWill's handle, though hopefully he'll be the shooter DWill was.

Joe Dumars.

That's a really interesting comparison.  I hope and pray he can become that kind of finisher / scorer.
